I was wondering how you guys put the edge on a knife. I dont mean sharpening the thing after its all said and done, i mean setting the edge after heat treating. Or do you put your finishes on then do the edge? been wondering this for a while. Personally i heat treat ,then clean up on the belt grinder ..then i use the part of the belt between the top contact wheel and the platen to "set" (for lack of a better term) what is in essence a convex edge. Lets hear your methods. This has worked quite well for me but im always looking to improve. Thanks Luke

I usually use the slack part of the belt to set the edge and then clean up with diamond stones to final sharpness. I've also ran the belt off the platen about a 1/4" and ran the edge 20 to 25 degrees to get angle set better. Both have had good results. I use either a 9 or 15 micron belt when I do this. I'm sure there will be some negative comments to this but it works for me and set a good edge that easy to resharpen when needed.

depends on the blade but most the time its a slack belt (convex) edge done to a 9 micron belt then stropped on a board loaded with white compound

take it how you will but most my blades are kitchen adn my buyers lover freaky sharp high grit edges
