Hey guys, I've recently grown extremely interested in knives and have been using BladeForums to read all of your experienced opinions and thoughts. I finally decided it was time to make an account, so if I'm posting in the wrong section, please let me know! I hope I can become an active participant to this community. Thanks!

Now onto the question. I've been thinking about purchasing the new black Spyderco Perrin PPT that just came out. I've done lots of research and everything is either excellent or acceptable. Whats stopping me from pulling the trigger is the awkward positioning of the clip. I've heard Fred Perrin was a genius with knives, so I'm wondering if there are specific reason for the slanted clip? I imagine it fitting weird in my pocket. I often like to carry knives in my back pocket, so I can't imagine it being too comfortable.

Thoughts from those who own the knife, as well as those who have seen/handle/heard of the knife are welcomed! :)

I can't speak to back pocket carry but it carries well for me in my front, right pocket. With the knife riding against the seam of my pocket, the clip is a bit slanted. I think it looks a little funny but it's not a functional issue. I think they did the best they could with the clip considering the curvature of the handle.

I used to own one. It was a great knife and the clip was not awkward at all. It rode deep and secure in my right front pocket. I wouldn't recommend carrying it in your back pocket unless its the left one so that the blade is against a seam. That goes for any tip up folder.

I think the clip would work fine and the knife looks great, I just find where the clip screws to the end of the knife aesthetically awkward.

May I ask why you don't have it anymore?

I've owned 2 of them, sold them both eventually. I liked the knife for the most part. I wouldn't recommend it for back pocket, it's like sitting with a roll of coins in your back pocket. I ended up selling them because I was interested in other knives, something you will soon find out about. Some people buy knives and simply hang onto them, never use them, just take several picture of them and that is it. Other people buy and use every single knife they can buy. I just decided to focus on acquiring all the variants of a specific set of knives, mostly from Golden, CO (personal preference).

I love mine. The handle shape and size fits me to perfection and I find the blade design very versatile.

I don't have any complaints about the clip. The angle is a bit different but nothing that bothers me. I actually think overall it matches up well with using a lanyard.

Agreed. What makes it comfortable to use also makes it awkward to sit on. I enjoy some other knives a little better but it's personal preference. It's a well made knife and if the weight and ergonomics are something you like it'd make a really good user. For a knife that size and weight I have to say I like the ZT 0566 better.

It's one of my favorite knives. I had one a few years ago and sold it, then decided it was a mistake and had to have another one. The clip is angled because of the curve in the handle, it doesn't bother me at all and rides in the right front pocket just fine. Like others have stated, I don't thinks its a good knife for back pocket carry. I have L-XL hands and the ergos are good for me. The blade shape may look a little funny but it is very functional and the FFG makes it good cutter. A very good all around knife. My one complaint is the back spacer adds a lot of weight to the knife.

I don't own one, so my thoughts are going to be as a prospective buyer like yourself....

If I'm looking at the clip, my concern is that it is screwed into the end of the knife scale, not the side of the slab per usual.

I like my clip secured with three screws into plenty of meat. Is that one secured using only two screws at the scale tip?

Wow! I really appreciate all the comments coming from everyone. Which Golden, CO knives would you recommend? I currently have the Manix 2XL and the Paramilitary 2, both are wonderful knives, but I'm looking for something that'll be just as great to the rotation. Don't necessarily mind heavy knives as long as it feels well balanced.. heard the Perrin PPT feels a bit heavy, but is the weight well suited in the hand?

i dont think you will be disappointed by the PPT, the quality is high and the knife feels excellent in the hand. when you hold it, you know it was meant to be used, its a very practical design and blade shape.

Just thought I'd let everyone know that I still have my all black PPT. Unbeatable lockup. Sounds harder and stronger than even a CRK.

I have one as well. Very well made and an interesting design - liners with different thicknesses, blade shape, etc. It is a bit heavy, but I still carry it every once in a while.

I have one of the original runs. Like others have said, fits the hand well, very well made, just a bit on the heavy side.
Matt
