1. zdp 189 outperforms s30v, vg-10, 154cm, most if not all ingot carbon/stainless tool steels (usuall cheaper by at least 30%)
2. m390, m4, s90v outperform zdp 189 but those knives cost nearly twice as much
conclusion: get a zdp 189 blade that's reasonably priced, and will be put to a lot of cutting chores. also assume you know how to sharpen and care for zdp. steel quality loses its logic when you go into the realm of pricey collectors' knives.
