Thoughts for a first timer.

I agree whole-heartedly with the rest of the gentlemen of the Forum. The BAS, WWII, and 15" AK are great knives to start out with. ESPECIALLY if you can find one of Uncle Bill's blems. However, if you're just getting started with the khukri scene then maybe you might consider a 15" villager model made by the kamis at Birgorka. They usually run around 22oz or so. That was my first Khukri as of a couple months ago. I followed it up with a used 15" AK blem and plan to get a 20" sirupati as soon as i get my taxes back at the first of the year;) Even though i love the look and feel of my AK the villager is still my favorite. i've managed to beat the living hell out of this knife. Took it camping, cleared my site, broke down some old skid pallets at work with it, chopped up old AL siding, limbed a tree. It's done everything i've asked of it and then some. Now i'm a knife ABUSER with a capital A. i was a kid that really enjoyed destroying those "unbreakable" combs just because they boasted to be indestructable. However, let me tell you this. I CANNOT imagine that i will ever be able to break one of my HI blades under ANY circumstance. At 21 years of age and not even out of college yet, I know in my heart that my son (God willing it's a boy;)) will using these fine knives when he is a man. Heck, i plan on passing my lil beast of an AK onto him and presenting my grandsons with my other HI blades when they are old enough. I'm totally with ICS on the issue of capturing a little piece of history now while it's still here to be had. Whatever model you choose you can't go wrong. i implore you to snatch up at least on of them. As a collector of knives you owe it to yourself to experience the craftsmanship, art, and histrory of these excellent blades.

Wow! what a great response! I guess I can't go wrong with any of these.
I am a litle confused by some of the letters after the models. Are they marks of the maker or something?
Are the specials (and blems) posted on the forum or do you have to contact HI for these?
Thanks agian for the advice!!!!!

wmpy,

I got my first HI khuk 2 weeks ago.. I chose the Chiruwa Ang Khola, for the strength and versitility. It's a hellova knife.

Can't wait to try it out in the field....although it's too damn cold in Colorado at the moment.

I'm sure you can't go wrong no matter which one you pick. They are all made with TLC.....and the customer service is FANTASTIC.

I'm plotting my second one as I write this.

Wmpy,
Uncle Bill usually posts khukris from the blem box in the morning or early afternoon. This way he can get reply on them early and shipped out as soon as possible. This is just one more way that good ol' Uncle Bill offers us the best customer satisfaction on the planet. If you order one that he has in stock, then you can expect it in a day or two (depending on the postal service;)). To order a blem just watch the forums for a Pix and Deal post by Uncle Bill and be one of the first fellas to send an e-mail claiming it. it's that simple;) trust me, you'll come for the knives and stay for the people. the guys in this forum are the best and i have never met a business man with such form and dedication to his customers as uncle Bill.

Thanx
Jake

I neglected my manners. Welcome to the Cantina!
Wmpy asks: I am a litle confused by some of the letters after the models. Are they marks of the maker or something

Sorry, I think you were referring to my inventory list. Didn't mean to confuse you. I copied the inventory list from 'My Documents' File.

GGA Gift Give Away
XGGA Xmas Gift Give Away
BDay GGA Birthday Gift Give Away

All abbreviations followed by the initials of the person I gave it to.

Basic Inventory List was meant to contain Description of Kukuri, Kami name of the Knife Maker, OAL Over all length of Khukuri and Handle, type of handle, carved, horn, wood etc.

I need to clean the inventory list up a bit. Sorry about that.:o

Wmpy:

Picking a WW2 16.5" or 18" is like getting a .308 or 30-06 for a hunting rifle. It's kind of hard to find something they DON'T do well. ( OK, they're a little underpowered for grizzly and they don't leave much of a squirrel. Outside of that, they're tough to beat. )

Welcome to the Cantina. For what it's worth I really like my AK 15". Mine's the H. I. villager model, the differences are only in the finish, it's a great knife. It's light in the hand and chops like nobodies business. I suggest one of them to start.I have other Khukuris but the 15" is the one I like to use the most.
