As far as I am concerned 440-C is still a “super steel,” nothing polished to a bright mirror finish like it or can resist corrosion as well. Those custom knives from the 60s and 70s still look great. The industry has simply moved away from using high mirror finishes and instead prefers the coated (painted/bead blasted/satin) tactical look. I would still consider 440-C for a premium bowie knife; although, there are far better steels for knives designed to beat on trees.Maybe it's because I got into knives when 440C was considered one of the better stainless steels, but I really like 154CM, and CPM-154 even more.…
