Thoughts On An Osprey K/T Apache, & A Few Pics

I would echo the thought on the spear-pointed Bushfinger similarities...particularly the older Bushfingers with a little more drop.

Absolutely awesome handle, I miss the occasional runs of bead-blasted handles from the Forge.

The hammered spalting is very appealing to the eye, what does it feel like under the finger? Are the dimples noticeable or is it similar in feel to A2 spalting? Not that it matters, just curious; it's a very cool finish.

There are indeed some similarities between the Apache and the Bushfinger, the more utilitarian aspects of both are from a very similar line of thinking. But there are a few distinct differences because some elements of the two designs are optimized for completely different tasks, and those elements of the Apache come from a very dissimilar line of thinking for a very different set of circumstances. I will post some photos tomorrow to illustrate what I am talking about.

Pics will be good but you're starting to sound like you work for the guvmint'. :D

LMAO, nope I don't work for them personally....but I do some R&D work for some people who do...so I have been forced to learn to speak their language over time :D

Ok, I although I don't currently have a hand made version of the Bushfinger...I am still waiting on the right one to pop up and me have the money at the same time. I do know what I want in one, so eventually that will happen. I do have a mid tech version, but it is loaned out to a friend on vacation. So I did put a folder of images together that show many aspects of the differences in thinking behind the two designs, but I don't think here in Andy's forum is the place for that particular discussion when Chris will soon be launching his own sub forum and will need to define and illustrate his thinking and philosophies behind his designs there, and this material will go better there in those discussions because it isn't a matter of one being better than the other in general, it is a matter of them both being better at what they were designed to be than the other is. I look forward to having that discussion as it is a really in-depth look at things, and I hope you guys will join in when the time comes in the near future.

For now I am just going to over simplify things and say that the nutshell version is that while there are obvious similarities. the main difference comes down to the perspectives they were designed from. One was designed from a bushcraft perspective, and the other was not. I'll get into all the details of that at a later time in another place :)
