Thoughts on Crusader Forge?

If a company feels the need to do false advertising, good product or not I will have nothing to do with them. It is a moral standard. I am sure Ill survive with the many companies that dont make ridiculous claims.
What claims? The standing on the knife thing?

It made me think of something I read the other day about how Strider make their knives: "We take a piece of metal and grind off EVERYTHING that doesn't look like a knife!".

It looks like in the case of Crusader Forge they take a piece of metal and grind off everything that doesn't look like a brick. :D:D

Seriously though, I'm strangely attracted to those chunks of metal.

I dont know, they still look like bricks to me haha

If they were INFI I would be sold. To me that is a chunk of change for S30V. Still, I do like the looks and thickness and from what little I have read about them the heat treatment is excellent. Thats about all I know about CF knives.

john t wylie jr says it very well. as to bricks i have to agree but the're attractive bricks. edge retention tests determine the factors of how long & how well a certain knife performs.

I guess that answers my question. There are just not enough glowing reviews for me to justify dropping 500+ on a CF. Busse on the other hand.....

They are big, end-of-days knives, no doubt. Mine is very comfortable, and the heat treat on the S30V seems extraordinary. I'm hoping someone will do some serious testing on these knives.

No knife does everything well. Different designs work better for some uses and less well for others. So, either these designs work for your specific needs or not.

But in my experience, these knives are extremely well made, the steel and heat treat are awesome and the customer service, in my experience, is excellent. 'Nuff for me.

Well I am still intrigued by CF designs. I guess I'll just see if I can put hands on one and get a feel for whether I like them or not.

Again, I agree, but we're not talking about false advertizing. No one is really lying about anything, or at least no more than anyone else does in advertizing. This is marketing, attempting to make a product appeal to a group of people you think are most likely to buy, your target group. It often happens that companies are surprised to find that consumers way outside that group are also attracted to their product, it happens a lot with cars. Companies hate it (for example) when pensioners buy a car that is targeted at young people, because the target group will now associate the car with old age.
But it changes nothing about the qualities of the car.

Same for the knife. It may be good or bad, but if you disregard it because the company targets 'mall ninjas' (whatever they may be) you run a risk of missing out on a good thing. I know for a fact that Cold Steel suffers from this, people being pleasantly surprised by a CS knife, after having decided to have nothing to do with CS/Lynn Thompson because of their advertizing/marketing strategy.

When Michelangelo was asked how he could turn a block of raw stone into a sculpture of a lion, he responded “I just cut away everything that doesn’t look like a lion.”
