Thoughts on current back-up power generator options: stationary whole house?

We have a 20k Kohler with a 500 gallon propane tank that got us through Ian for 8 days of no power. I set up a table out front for the neighbors to recharge their stuff. Never lost internet/television.
Neighbors with gasoline powered portable generators had great trouble finding gas as most stations were out or had hour long lines.

We had a 24 kW Generac whole house generator installed in May and activated in June. So far, it's run for 12 hours of power outages, not counting the weekly five minute "exercise" periods. We have an in-ground 500 gallon propane tank which provides the fuel.

The generator sends us alerts to an app and via email when it is running, and back on standby...and the app monitors the runtime, battery charge, and any faults.

Wasn't cheap, but it's been a godsend and I'm sorry we didn't do it sooner.

We were also fortunate that we were eligible for and received a 10 year extended warranty, (for free), from Generac which covers parts, labor and travel time. So we're essentially only on the hook for maintenance costs during that time frame.
