I have just traded a pm2 for the DPX HEST 2.0. would like to get some opinions on it. I have had d2 steel in the past (BM bone collector) and it worked fine for me, but I know BM has a decent heat treat. anyone have issues with this knife? Other than lock rock... just overall opinions is what im looking for really. Something to pass time while waiting for it to come in. thanks guys:D Dan

I have no experience with the knife itself, but I do have experience with Lionsteel's D2. (Lionsteel makes the DPX)

It rusted on me in two days from being in my pocket AND it was well oiled with Eezox, which is the best rust inhibitor I've found in my personal use.

Lionsteel does, however, make a very fine product with above average f&f IMO.

I would recommend getting the coated blade from my own findings. YMMV

Thank you. I dont think rust will be much of an issue has the coating plus I live in NH there is little to know humidity.

Mine came VERY sharp, in fact the sharpest D2 blade I've had so far. The coating is quite durable. No lock rock at all on my 2.0.
It is however VERY thick at the spine and while its FFG its still more of a splitter than a cutter with most materials.
F&F on mine is close to perfect, and everytime I look at the stonewashed Ti, it makes me wanna lick it, but maybe thats just me being weird :D
Again, its a very thick blade, especially because its only ~3.1 inches long, but if thats what you want, you won't be disappointed. Lionsteel makes a good knife.
Oh yeah, and the G10 is pretty rough, which I like, others might not.

Awesome thats what i was hoping to hear thank you!!!

I've had no issues with LionSteel D2 on my SR-1 Aluminum or the Dendra Knives D2 (Deer Hunter & Tiger Jump) manufactured by LionSteel.

The two DPx Gear HEST/F 2.0 folders I have do not have D2 but instead Sleipner (Milspec) and Niolox (Triple Black Special Edition) and those have good corrosion resistance. What I can tell you is they have a fairly narrow profile and are quite beefy (blade is 3.1" long and nearly 0.2" thick). Very sharp and fairly good cutters considering. Includes bottle opener, wire cutter and glass breaker. With the LionSteel RotoBlock you can turn them into fixed blades. The titanium frame lock does need work with a sharpie or pencil to alleviate the stickiness. They're mini-tanks.

Here's a size comparison picture with the Spyderco Para2.

those look awesome next to the para two seems they have about the same cutting edge on them... Can't wait for mine to come in Monday!!! As far as the fixedblade I think thats a little far fetched, but I do like the idea of the wire strippers for jimping... Also can you wave these knives like emersons with the bottle opener?

No, because the bottle opener doesn't come out far enough like the Emerson Wave.

It works quite well for me, at least on a normal jeans, doesn't work so well with cargo pants because of the different pocket shape

I guess I need to practice more with it. With the Emerson it's effortless since the Wave protrudes out so far.

You can easily wave these blades open, actually I have to be careful when I pull it from my pocket not to have it open. Believe me, the opener easily works to wave them open.

Just got my Mil spec and my lefty will be here tomorrow (lefty was hard to hunt down, good friends here help me find it) the Milspec is a righty knife, and i did mod the clip to be put on the g10 side to use as a lefty. This thing is very nice, i usually carry a Sebenza and must say its pretty nice. Got it because i really don't need to be messing up a 400 dollar knife on a construction site. Ill be carrying for a little to see how i really like it

I trust that you will enjoy it Skivic. Extremely stout folder. You don't have to worry about hurting or breaking it that is for sure, I also have the T3 and I have to say that if you ever get the chance to pu one of them up.....do it...you won't be disappointed. RYP did an incredible job on those serrations and they are soooo easy to maintain, I wasn't much on serrations but the T3 changed my thinking.

I feel you will be impressed MrBlademan2012. I originally bought the HEST because I had read Pelton's books and watched his interviews and followed him throughout the years before I am sure he ever thought about starting DPx Gear. He's an interesting fellow with incredible people skills (BFC past/slip up not included :-I ) and a set of stones on him that most men lack nowadays IMO. Someone like that that is smart enough to surround himself with smart people (putting ego aside) and hiring the proper people is a recipe for success in the knife world. I feel RYP's company has passed the point of now knowing that DPx Gear is here to stay and is slowly climbing up the ladder amongst the "hard use" type of knife companies that are out there.

Enjoy your piece, you won't be disappointed is my guess.
