Thoughts on Exposed Pivot Pins

Don't own any, but at some point, I should rectify that situation. It does make sense for something that is made as a tool, and, imo, looks just fine too!

Like any other visible feature, the exposed pin (pivot's or the others) needs to fit well in the whole package.
I have seen amazing pieces from Javan (Dempsey) where the domed pivot jumps on the etched wrought iron bolster as the cherry on the cake!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I love exposed pins. I've been using the heck out of my Sardinian resolza and a few other friction folders, and once a year or so I like to snug them up a bit. A tap or two and its done. I wish more knives had exposed rivets.

This one was a bit wobbly in the blade after 70 some years of use. A few careful taps and it's good to go some more.

I'm definitely not a fan of the look, but can't deny the functionality. I use some of my scout knives pretty darned hard, and often have to squeeze out the blade play, re-peen the pin, and sand down the bolster to finish. Sooner or later, those knives are going to run out of bolster.

I like the look and functionality but I have to admit it's not for all knives.
Exposed pins don't look good on small knives at all, like peanuts or small stockmans.
Larger patterns like a railsplitter just look like they can work. So I think exposed pins would look right at home there.
The exposed pin really seems to fit this little workhorse barlow. Exposed pins, 1095 and delrin covers very functional.

Scout knives and Tl-29's were two of the knives I thought about when I started this thread.
It would match the bail end.
