Thoughts on Humangear capCap and Guyot/Nalgene Steel Bottle - Photo Review...

Great PHOTOS and Excellent write up Bro

Thanks for taking the time do post this

I don't post in W&S very often, but I find a ton of very useful info here, maybe more so than most to the subforums on BFC... And it was a previous perusal of threads on water bottles that also sold me on the Guyot and cup... And the recommendation about Twowolves finalized my switch; great service and prompt!
I looked at the KK's, but couldn't accept the narrow mouth - didn't look field cleanable to me, and I can put up with splash if I have to. I did try another SS bottle, from REI, but I wasn't too pleased about the overall shape, nor the plastic ring that forms the mouth - the plastic to SS interface seems to trap soap suds, requireing quite a bit of rinsing, and also renders the bottle non-fire friendly...

MDP, this is a great write up of the comparisons between options, and if I had encountered it before I went with Guyot, I'd sure as heck go for it now... But, I'd have also opted for the capCap if I'd known about, for etiquitte's sake on the trail and at work - no dribbling in the office!!! :D

Yeah, the splash issue is negligible when compared to the general utility of the wide mouth.

I could almost live with not being able to boil, though I am looking forward to that... The soap being caught in the joint would simply be a deal killer. No Bueno!

Just wanted to update this...

1. I really expected the stainless steel to impart some sort of taste to the water.... But it doesn't, and I am totally digging it!

2. I really like this Humangear capCap, no more trying to line your lips up with the right part of the threads on a Nalgene bottle. And no more wide mouth to spill water down the side of my face. Score!

3. I built a bail system out of wire rope, for my bottle, and it works quite well. I think you all will like to see it. I will take pictures tomorrow.

I am really digging the Humangear capCap idea! Thanks for starting this awesome thread. Some great ideas.

So, a few more thoughts on the this set up...

1. I am still a little astounded that the stainless steel imparts no flavour. Truly, it has not fully sunk in, and some times I still expect the water to be flavoured... Weird.

2. I bought a Granite Gear Stuff Sack, #2, to hold the cup and the bottle together in my messenger bag. Still just kinda trying it out... I think if I was going to want a stuff sack for it, I would have one made to fit it, exactly. The stuff sack I bought is too tall. A stuff sack would come in pretty handy if you were using this around the fire, to keep your other gear from getting dirty from the soot of the pot.

3. The Humangear capCap is still a huge favourite. One issue with the combination of the stainless bottle and capCap is that when you are filling it through the small cap, it is hard to tell when you are full.

4. Been using my bottle with the Flexible Bail I make, and it works just fine on the bottle all the time, though it is nice that it is easy to remove.

Can't wait for my bail to arrive! I've needed one for a while now and could just never muster up the time or supplies (minimal though they are)! :p

Never fear, good sir! I shall most certainly do so! It ought to help keep me distracted until that 760 sheath appears, which I've also been quite excited about (no rush though, I'm patient--just excited! ;))

It ought to work nicely, and make me more likely to actually use the thing for something other than drinking water out of when I'm out and about. :p

I took a picture of the flexible bail with the normal Guyot lid....

I have thought of applying the wire rope to a leash for the Guyot lid, what do you all think? I don't know if I would use it, but I could make one...
