Functionally, these "new" MTs are really no different than the old ones. Its just the new look that I don't really dig.

Yes they did. Even if they did not the new Juice blade would still be to large to carry on a plane. The law they where trying to pass to allow knives on planes again would basically only allow you to carry a 58mm Victorinox Classic. The allowed length was a bit larger than the blade on the classic but it was about the same. The 91mm Victorinox blade would have been to large to carry on a plane even if they did change the rules.
This is just a guess, but I think the "two tone" handles is a way to at least partly finesse the difference in thickness between the two, a frequent negative customer comment on the Juice line. That provides a subtle suggestion that there is some justification for the difference. Fiendishly clever of Tim, unless that wasn't the motive at all, in which case only my fiendishly paranoid fantasy.
