Thoughts on Opinel knives?

Opinels are a great value and are good tools in the kitchen and in the field. I think they are a bit more dangerous than the average folder because the lock ring leads to a false sense of security. During use, the lock ring can move enough to disengage and the blade is then free to close. I think they should always be used as though they were friction folders and exercise care that the blade does not close on one's fingers. Even though I have and one and use it regularly,I would not recommend it to a casual knife user.
