I just got the Busse newsletter and it led me to the Scrapyard site...I really like the look of those SYKCOS! And the prices seem pretty good! Do any of you Beckerheads also have Busse esp. Scrapyards? What do you think, should I order a 311 and 511?

I think the 311 just hit the market a couple of days ago. I ordered one last night and haven't gotten a shipping notice yet. I have a 711 and it's a fine knife, if a bit heavy at 1/4" stock. Not sure it can do anything the BK7 can't, but it's a nice knife nevertheless. The handle does take a while to get used to, though.

Hmm...seems like the 711 would be a much better chopper than the BK7 with the thicker stock, but in reality, they can probably do the exact same thing.

I have a 711 on order, and I hear it may take a few weeks. The 311 looks really nice too. I hear lots of good thing about those brands, but I also hear we have more people viewing this forums ;)

I've had 3 swamp rats. They've all had thicker edges then they needed and choils SUCK. They also have a business model that makes it frustrating to buy from them. Otherwise they're nice.

I briefly thought about getting a 511 or 711, but I just couldn't bear to spend that much on a knife.

Also, just looked at the 311 and while it looks fine I guess, doesn't 3/16 seem super thick for a 3.5in knife?

Care to put some BKT in this thread, or, should I take this to the Busse forum?

I love Beckers, Esee's and now have a great admiration for Swamprats and Scrapyards. That SR 101 steel is tougher than the hubs of hades and really holds an edge. Some people don't like the Resiprene C handles but I love em. They are great in any temp, (and I spend a lot of time in frigid temps) and they have a great shock absorbtion quality when chopping or even batonning. IMHO they are great knives. Are they better than Beckers or Esee's? Can't say, but they are great knives.
Just one man's opinion.
Cheers

I'd rather spend my money on Becker, personally. I've got a RatManDu, and it's a nice knife, but you don't get nearly as much knife for the money as you do with Beckers, and you'll notice that Bussekin don't get modded nearly as much as Beckers do. It's nice to have a solid blade that you can make your own.

Beckers are definitely the most bang for the buck. And as far as Bussekin go, the Scrapyards seem to be the way to go. I'll probably hold off until I get my tweeners and see if I really have any gaps in my collection.

How is this for BKT?

I've been considering the BK7, JAB Potbelly and SYKC 711 for a 7in fixed blade. Anyone out there have both of them and care to compare them to each other (preferably with pics :D).

Obviously the price of the BK7 is a pretty strong argument for it, and I already know I love the handle. The potbelly looks awesome, but I think it might be a bit heavy for me to tote around all of the time, and I already have a BK9 for camp chores.

I really have no info on the 711 other than its freaking expensive, and the stuff I can read from their website.

I really think if I was spending that much on a blade, that I would rather have the BK12 as I think I would like the 6in blade a bit more than the 7in anyway.

Thoughts?

I like it, and now, I'm curious. Well done.

Wait, you mean to tell me you don't have a 711?

For some reason there is part of me that thinks in this mystical knife chest you have somewhere (barlow?) you have basically almost everything ever made.

Sounds like we need a review now... (once again, I'll gladly volunteer to perform the review. Alas, I have none of the blades that were mentioned, so I'll have to have people send them to me :)).

Nope, I don't own a single Busse or Bussekin knife. Never have.
