Thoughts on Spyderco's...

I do not like most Spydercos.

That being said, I bought a Para recently.

It is one of my favorite knives now.

They got this one right.

The para is an awesome knife, if you can deal with tip-down carry.
The para is great, but some prefer a different carry position (para tip down rh only).
The tip [down] carry is not my preferred position but I've had it before and get used to it.
I have one of the D2 Paras, but don't carry it much. I think I'd like it a lot more if it came with a tip-up clip.
Tip-up is definately better.
While it does not matter to me, I can understand some people having a preference for one or the other. What I don't really understand, however, the huge importance many people on the forum place on tip down vs tip up when chosing a knife.

I have a number of pocket clip knives in each orientation, and to be honest I'd have to go look at them to tell you which is which. It's just not something that I even notice while carrying and using a knife unless I stop to think about it. To me, tip orientation is a non-issue.

The handle / blade ratio is also a bit out of proportion.
I actually consider this a positive feature. As long as ultimate concealability is not a factor, I find having a slightly larger handle on a smaller blade gives a firmer grip and better control during cutting.

I tried to like the para - and I know ot is also a great knife, but the Millie is really much better IMHO.
While some people have to look to the Para due to length restrictions on carry blades, I would agree that if this isn't a concern I would (and do!) chose the larger Millie. The larger blade and larger handle just make it that much better, IMO. While its true that some people may be more intimedated by the larger Millie, outside of the work environment as long as I'm "legal" I really don't care what some sheeple thinks of my carry blade. :p

I don't, I just mentioned some people find it a breaking point. I do prefer tip down carry.

Again, as do I, but some people find it a problem.

Bold portions.

You may want to handle the PM before you purchase to make sure it fits your hand; it should unless you have monster size hands. For me it's Spyderco perfection and just the right EDC size! I like Spydies to be clip down, and the the compression lock is friendly and stout for my uses! I prefer flat grind and color handles are a plus FG or digital camo. You may want to snape up a CPM D2 before they are gone. I can't make up my mind just yet but I think CPM D2 may now be my favorite steel.

PP,

Nice pic....LOL I just ordered that exact knife.:D

Thanks to All for the input. Done a ton of research and browsing these past few days and after going back and forth from the Para-Mil to the Manix 2 and even gave the ZT 301 a hard look...I settled on the Para-Military.

Pretty much across the board a well-respected knife and It's about damn time I owned a Spidie.

I wanted the baddass looking camo handled-black blade version but went with the green D2 one. Rather plain looking, but I thought the D2 was a nice feature and the limited run kinda cool.

Looking forward to using it...

The para is an awesome knife with great ergos...I EDC'd it for a few months but replaced it with something less tactical...A fallkniven U2. Also, be advised with the tip down only carry option there is almost an inch of knife that will be exposed out of your pockets if your paranoid about losing it or people seeing it.

Wow...!:D

Just got my new Spyderco PE Para-Military in the limited run D2 with the green foliage handles. It's absolutely SWEEEEET.

Nicest EDC I've had to date. Came perfect out of the box. Blade centered, tight but butter smooth action with G-10 handles that grab you! Great balance and perfectly sized.

Still may get a Manix 2 but I will be hard pressed to find another EDC that I like as much as this thing.

The handle / blade ratio is also a bit out of proportion. I like this as I feel it increases control over the knife edge, but some find it not to their liking.

Same here.
It's better to have a too large handle to blade ratio than the other way around.

Congrats on your new blade. I just got the 'bad-ass' digicam/black version myself. Its my third Para now, first in plain edge. Its the only knife I have multiples of.

Have you looked into the BM 940? This is almost 8 inches total, with a very solid lockup, S30V (or I think there is a D2 version floating around somewhere), and tip up carry which is fairly deep. It has a strong (I'm sure; I haven't broken it yet to find out) reverse tanto blade and feels great in the hand. I know it is a lot of peoples favorite...including mine out of almost 20 blades, including a couple of spydies, although I've never held a PM. And there is also the axis lock which satisfies, in my opinion, on every level imaginable.
