Thoughts on the BK1 Brute?

I got to use one at BeckerWest , I was expecting it to not be a good chopper and guess what it wasn't a good chopper. I'll still get one of the new ones someday and do what needs to be done to make it a good chopper.
 
Had a small limb go down in the front yard, so I used my Brute to render it for the fire bowl this morning.
Moose is right. My Brute with the thinned edge is a fine chopper, but it doesn't touch the 9.

I've never used a Brute. I would have guessed that it's a better chopper than BK9. They are around the same length, and the Brute looks like a great chopper. Perhaps the new ones will have a better grind. It can't be that hard to turn the Brute into a great chopper.
 
You guys seriously bummed me out! I've been lusting after the Brute for almost a year now, saving my pennies, anxiously awaiting the re-release of this beast. Now I read this?! What am I supposed to do with my time now?!! I learn the monster I've been dying to get my hands on is really just a kitty cat? Oh the dissapointment!

I'll guess I'll just have to be console myself with the tweeners when they arrive and will have to fill my large knife vacuum with a 9. :(
 
my thoughts too, the Brute looks like it should out chop anything in its size range, I am sad to hear that it isnt doing that.
 
Josh, did anyone one have a BK9 there while the Brute was out to comepare the two of them. You did say you liked the Brute? Is it a knife you will be interested in when Kabar/Becker releases it next year?

Nope, nobody had a BK-9 out that weekend, but I got to use a Bk-7, and a BK-1 Brute, and a BK-11, along with my BK-13.
Yeah, I like it, I think it has alot of potential. I think if i put a wicked convex on it, It will do the job.
I love re-curves! I had the Kershaw Outcast (D2 that I 'vexed) for a long time an beat on it HARD.
