Thoughts on the Cold Steel Engage (3.5" S35VN)

Gideons Tactical on YouTube has managed to damage the Atlas by batoning. He gave a Triad (on a Recon 1) the same treatment and it was fine (as one would expect).

Thanks for posting the video review .

The Atlas(at least in it's present form ) is definitely not the Tri-ad killer replacement that GSM is hyping it to become, when the patent runs out .

The old Cold Steel crew would have done this much better and made their own videos to prove it .

By my measure, the AD-10 has a 3 & 5/8th edge and the Engage has a 3 & 1/16th edge.
The AD-10 handle length is 5.25" and the Engage handle length is 4.75".
Some finger choils can really shorten an edge.
Wonder what the edge is on the American Lawman. Another blade with a prominent choil.

Agree. Sigh.

I'd like to see that knife taken apart to see what loosened up to make it rattle.Maybe that lockbar that goes above and below the pins spread slightly out ;if thats the case they need to make it thicker or stronger. So much for re inventing the wheel, but under normal use it should be fine...

normal use
Not what most guys want and expect from Cold Steel . :(

I can easily imagine that GSM simply failed to make sure the lock hardware quality would be fully functional for actual hard use .

Heres the update he posted as to the problem; None of the pins failed. It has to do with the pivot. Too tight and the bar now does not engage and you have all the up-and-down rattle if you back it off the bar will engage but then you have a bunch of side to side rattle. And I can’t get it to operate like you saw in the video prior to batoning

Coming back for an update. I gave this knife a mixed review at first. But over time it has become one of my favorites. It has been winning lately against my AD10's and AD20's for pocket time. It's just a really practical, comfortable, usable, and even stylish knife.

I'd be impressed if it could beat out my AD-10 or 15 !
It's a different knife, but it does feel like a followup in the line, given that Cold Steel doesn't have rights to the AD20. It is a smaller, thinner knife. But I just keep finding myself going back to it.

Too expensive, compared to CS standbys like the Lawman, Code4, and UH. Pass.

I also own a Code 4. The Engage is a much better knife than the Code 4 IMO, and it's only about $20 bucks more street price. I've got no experience with the American Lawman. Heard nothing but good things though.

Where are you shopping? I have never seen an Engage for $20 more than a Code 4.

I guess I was wrong. I just rechecked prices. I had it in my head that the Code 4 was 140ish. Looks like it's a sub-100-dollar knife. I got my engage for $160.

I can buy a S35VN / G10 AD-10 for ~$100 right now !

I'd have to recommend that to buy( before the Engage) , if someone didn't already own one .:thumbsup:
