Thoughts on the James Brand Chapter Knife?

I recently bought this knife and have to say it is quite nice. It is not worth the $275 MSRP, but for the reduced price I paid I would say it is a great piece for EDC. I have always been a fan of D2 steel as well, so that helps. The handle fits really well in my hand and I just like the style of the knife. It doesn't hold a candle to my CR Sebenza but i never expected it to, it is just a very useful EDC knife (with a hipster vibe.) I think the best part for me is that it doesn't look menacing when I pull it out of my pocket to cut up an apple at the office. It is well built and nicely appointed.

Personally, I like the looks of it, and the D2 steel appeals to me. Sticker-shock notwithstanding, I would carry & use one, if the opportunity arose.

If marketing to hipsters gets more people into carrying a pocketknife, I'm all for it.

I bought one (at a steep discount) for the same reasons you stated above. I love it as a sturdy EDC. The nice part, for me at least, is that it doesn't look to tactical when I pull it out to cut something in the office.

Very simple. Hipsters buy things with the express goal of being seen to own said item, usually because of some percieved status in the group/culture associated with the item.

And yes, most of you that buy knives with huge price tags do so with no intent of ever using them as knives, but rather as devices of social reaction. Of course, none of you will ever admit that you paid 1600 for a medford paper weight just to be seen by others with it..

Btw, I wouldnt buy the pictured blades for more than 75 bones. They look cheap, regardless of their assembled quality.

So Cadillac buyers then? As are all the Hinderer purchasers from a few years ago when they were selling for 2-3x retail? Calling everything you don't like "hipster" is beyond getting old, and not having a good reason for doing so simply makes it even less potent.

I like the look of it... I wonder why

There is nothing about the knife that I dislike on its own, but it doesn't appeal to me. I can't quite put my finger on what makes me not like the knife, especially because Tony at everydaycommentary said it was pretty good, and I trust his views on a lot of knives.

The County is the same. I should like a modern-ish slip joint with torx pivot, but I just can't warm up to it. I would love to read reviews of both knives though.

EDIT: I don't usually like Emersons, but that A-100 looks nice
