I'm thinking about buying a Jeep Liberty and would like some feed back from anyone that owns one.Looking for any pros and cons about this model? I found some 2014s 4WD with about 25000 miles that were rentals with asking price of $17K .
Thanks!

A friend bought a Liberty about 2 years ago. It's very nice inside, the dash layout is well thought out, mostly. The gas mileage is not great by any means 15mpg city. But it is fun to drive and hauls his family back and forth with no issues. Oe thing, his insurance turned out to be a bit higher, it seems that in this neck of the woods, it is one of the most stolen vehicles, it made the top 10 list second only to Honda and Toyota.

CON----- It's a rental 4W drive!!!!
CON----- It's a 2014 and it has 25000 miles on it!!!!!

As for Jeep Libertys, I don't know about the 2014 but I had a few as rentals, back in 2008-10 and they were great.

All of them spent a lot of time in 4W drive, and not for snow. This was in SE KY and WV, spent most of my time on dirt and 4/four wheeler trails.

Yep, in a rental.

The difference between a 4W drive and a rental car? You can take a rental anywhere.

No way in hell would I buy a rental 4W drive, not after all the stuff I put them through, and I was careful. I didn't want to get stuck.

God luck.

I don't know much about the newer models, but the older ones were absolute garbage. Everything on it was designed to break and be a pita and they were just generally poorly built. My wife has an '02 and I refuse to sell it because if I took $5 for it I would feel like I was ripping someone off. Like I said, I don't know about the newer years, I sure hope they've improved. I'd get on a Jeep forum and do some digging.

Lol,at least you rented a FWD. I remember years ago I went on a trip with this guy to find the perfect Bull to breed with.He rented a new Cadillac to drive through half the cattle pastures in the San Angelo area.

Yikes don't sound too great.Basically looking for a best of all worlds SUV type vehicle with 4WD thank doesn't drink fuel like a sailor on shore leave.:)

Don't buy a rental. Those cars see the worst abuse possible. I know someone who works for a car rental, from the stories he tells me, you would be wise to avoid buying a rented car. Trust me on that.

Even if you do find one that is mechanically sound, there's probably drugs stashed in it or other horrific stains left from the previous drivers.

The Toyota 4runner is pretty hard to beat, comfy, 21mpg on the highway, 17 city, plenty of room and tough 4wd. Or the Subaru Outback, 25 city 33 highway. All wheel drive.

I think they actully had a diesel model of the liberty I've heard good things about

I own one of those and I love it. I have to admit, that little diesel rumbling under the hood really adds a lot to the experience. The torque is the real sweet surprise in this little tractor. Living in Iowa, I've experienced plenty of really crappy roads, and it just crawls through it all.

A word of warning on the Liberty, however. It's more Jeep than it is a cute SUV, and it has the rough ride to prove it. It's a very capable little SUV, but don't expect a cushy ride.

I finally got rid of my 1990 S10 4wd blazer last November. I bought a 2010 lib with 22000 miles on it. I think the out the door price was 16400 with tax and all. In 2wd the lib kicked the blazers butt. in 4wd, not so sure. That blazer was a tank in 4wd. I do like it though, the gas mileage is about 15 in winter and maybe 17 or 18 mpg in spring. Kinda quite paying attention and just feed it. Local transmission place seems to think highly of them. They dont see them in there for tranny work too often.

Cricketdave is right the 4runners are great! Also I'm quite fond of the military blazers CUCVs, you can usually find them at a good price with low miles.

I had a 4runner years ago and it was great. The new ones are a little more coin than I'm looking to spend.

Yeah they aren't cheap and the new ones are a big on the big size, the subaru on the other hand is comfy affordable and gets the best mileage of any suv I'm aware of thats not tiny. My daughter has a juke now that little thing just hauls ass and goes off road like a screaming banshee, or maybe thats just me in the passenger seat when she's driving it off road.

Rented a Liberty for a 1900 mile round trip. Not comfortable. Driver leg and feet space is cramped.

I here all the good things about this Jeep but to be honest old owned one about maybe 4 or so years ago New and it was a pure lemon. I had it fixed 3 times in one week, I would wake up to drive to work let it warm up and I would be driving every single Window would fog up and stay that way I would have to pull over every time. It was the one car that was just fully retarded. The sad part is its really comfortable and nice to drive but I had thousands in problems and it was off the showroom floor. It was a crazy year with that Jeep.

Just my experience and I have heard a lot of other people that love it to so I guess I just had a lemon version.

Nice what she got done?

I like my '05 w/6spd, does everything I need her too. Tucks 'em in and twist fairly well considering...

Some old poser shots :D Don't seem to have any goods one of her getting dirty or out in the field uploaded to my photobucket...

The other side,

No real experience with the newer models, though being a Jeep, there are probably little quirks to 'em like all Jeep's seem to have;) I'd probably stay away from a rental too, they're ragged on so hard through their life.
