Thoughts on the Jeep Liberty?

I had a 2005 Liberty CRD turbo diesel. It was one of the best SUV's I ever owned. I had 1 EGR valve problem at 37,XXX miles. I got really good gas mileage -about 35 hyw. That diesel would wind up and go! My truck came with factory lockers and some other "off road" accessories I never used.

I bought my first Jeep from Enterprise rent a car. I traded it in on the Liberty with 130,xxx miles. No issues at all with that used, previously rental car. I had a great warranty that I never used as well. Don't be afraid.

Once Jeep got rid of the reliable straight 6 cylinder engine, I realized Jeep was not about the customer.....but about bringing them back for repairs. Loved and miss my 2000 Jeep Cherokee

I had a couple Cherokees before this Liberty and they are the entire reason we stuck with Jeep because that straight six got after it! My issue with the Cherokees circa when we bought our 02 Liberty was that the brakes sucked on them. None of my Cherokees stopped for crap! We are talking 90s models tho, in their defense.

The Liberty in 02 is much the same underneath as the Mercedes that competed with it that year. Ours uses some of the same parts even. Anyway, its been a good truck but we don't have many miles on ours. Its had issues but all were right after getting it. The only one was a connection to the rear CD exchanger which they failed to connect. It was all there they just didn't plug in the last plug and it had to be traced to be hooked up. Once found it was simply snapped into place and it was fine from then on.

The other was when we were dumping a DVD rental in an out box at Hastings records and tapes. When rolling the passenger side window down it got half way down and then just clunked and fell down into the door and wouldn't come back up. Of course it was raining. So we had to dart to the dealer and they fixed it right away to inform us a clip was missing in the bottom to keep it on track. So some minor misses on QC at the factory that could be alarming if there are more you know? Otherwise a good rig and set up. I do not care for the towing situation with the spare tho. You do have to have an extension or drop down to be able to hitch it without having to first remove the spare.

I travel for work 6 months or more a year for a month or more at a time. Although I don't abuse rental vehicles, I can't say the same about some of my coworkers. I have witnessed first hand and heard many tails of the abuse that some rental cars are put through. I once drove a car about 6,000 miles and was told not to worry about the service engine light that came on about 2,000 miles into the rental. I would consider purchasing a used rental vehicle much like a salvage title vehicle. Rental history shows up in a carfax report for a reason. Nothing jumps curves and does donuts like a rental car.
