It looks like the guys at BF upgraded the UBB software. As far as I can tell, here are the changes:

1. Ability to disable smiles.
2. The "fire" icon
3. Alphabetical listing of the forums
4. More "biographical info" below our names

What else did I miss, and what do you think?

Personally, I like all the changes except the biographical info. It clutters up the screen IMHO.

Actually, I like the bio info. Saves some clicking and time when you want to know who you're dealing with. I've already seen some members suddenly realize another member is virtually a neighbour.

I like most of the changes. I`m not too hot on the bio info because I`m a kinda private person and thousands of folks member and not read these posts. No prob though I don`t have much listed anyway.

I agree with Marcus. I'm not real keen on the bio stuff. I don't see the need. Anyone wanting to know more about one of us can check out our profile; there's no need for it being stuck out there for the world to see whether they want it or not. We have enough of this "Big Brother" crap to deal with as it is.

I feel so, so about the bio stuff. On one hand, I feel some privacy is lost. On another, it's interesting to see the region someone's from and see how that may or may not influence the individual's choice of blades, carry options, etc. For example, in the less crowded states, there is a general preference for the bigger knives. Makes sense for emergency and survival situations in natural environments.

I too like privacy (you'd never know it with my phone number plastered all over the internet!). But, since the info is/was only one click away, and we controlled content, I don't mind it. My objection was merely aesthetic.

Of course, it IS neat to see who you're talking to. It really is also funny to see what somebody actually looks like. If we have a blade show "dinner" we can see that. Of course, we'd have to wear big username plackards on our heads so we could have a conversation without forgetting who was who!

A BF members profile is a just a click away, I have found that when I click on sections it takes that much MORE time to load/spool up before I can read the text, and/or see pictures. All the little extras are cool, but it hogs up speed of loading.

I guess if I had a cable modem it wouldn't be a problem: I am limited to an impared phone line and am lucky to get 31.4K with a 56K modem (I ended up selling the faster modem since it wasn't any faster than my stock 28.8K modem).

May be it should state our age in the profiles: like any of us act our age...LMAO!

I think you're on to something here. Lets expand it a little further and have a space to list your goals in life too. Like on the Miss America pageant.

"Hi, I'm Bambi, I'm 22 years old and repeating my freshman year at Pickledunk college for the 3rd time. My goals in life are to cure cancer, save all the whales and fill up the hole in the ozone layer with helium baloons".

Now from the BF members we'd probably get stuff like "I'm Al, I'm 52 years old and my goal in life is to use my knives to feed the starving people of the world. My plan is simple. Just seize the assets of all the worlds dishonest politicians. Take all that money and buy cattle. Use my knife to skin, quarter and butcher the cattle and then let the Air Forces of the world drop it into the places where it's needed most. This would also have the side benefit of helping world peace. Who could fight if they're busy bobbing and weaving to avoid all those frozen hunks of beef that are falling from the sky? Check back in a year. I'm still buying knives and trying to work out the drop coordinates".

Blackdog, that's certainly my goal in life -- to change the world with my trusty khukuris. And I'll let Bambi come along for the ride; she can polish my khuks and other implements.

Its nice that you want to save the world, Al - can we have your cool knives (like I REALLY need another one....lol, khukuri?>! well, that is a TOOL, not a knife.) A man HAS to have TOOLS!
