Thoughts on the new Cold Steel G10 Espadas?

I like 'em myself. The bead blasting I could do without, but the G10 scales are quite appealing. For practicality, I'd probably choose the medium sized one (relatively speaking), but if you're going to get a monster folder, the large one is the only way to go.

Yeah the large is my choice as well.

I wouldn't even think of getting anything but the XL.

If they made an xxl version I would it get it I figure if your going to go that big might as well have a 9.5" blade and wield it two handed. With the massive overall length it can also be used as a spear..are folding spears legal?

being that my grail knife is the folding katana in star trek...

I'm not really one for megafolders -- I ended up selling my Rajah because it just sat around collecting dust -- but, given the price on these, might have to pick up an XL just for the hell of it. :D

The one thing I'm slightly wary about is the bead-blast finish: the Spartan (another CS with a bead-blast blade) seems to have a reputation for rusting if you look at it wrong. Probably nothing that a little Tuf-Glide can't prevent, though. Plus, it's not like I'll be carrying it or regularly putting it in situations where water, sweat, etc. could get on the blade -- it'll be more a novelty than anything else.

I haven't really noticed much rust on the spartan.

Cool, that's good to hear. I know there are plenty of folks that haven't had rust issues with the Spartan. All I meant is that, anecdotally, it seems to be more rust-prone than a lot of other knives (with the bead-blast finish being the most likely culprit). Still, it's not anything that'll keep me from getting one of these new Espadas when they come out. :)

By the way on the note of the beadblast rusting. Isn't kershaws 14c28mov stainless but the bead last will get a light amour of rust? I was just guessing this may be the CS case.

I'm going for large one, XL is not wearable in my opionion.
And Large - it fits to pocket, and f**** you, political correctness :D

Yeah, it's a general issue with bead-blast finishes, not something that's specific to CS.

Naw I didn't think it was a CS only issue. Some WD40 aughta just wipe the rust right off anyway right?
Not sure about WD-40, but a couple minutes with any good metal polish (e.g., Flitz) will remove surface rust and leave the blade much less rust-prone in the future. I've used Flitz on a couple of bead-blast Kershaws that had very minor rust specks and haven't had any issues since.
