Thoughts on the ZT 0462?

Not my type of blade or handle. Quality is certainly there though.

I opted!

The first thing that you notice is how little the knife weighs. ZT went to great lengths to reduce the weight by extensively milling out the ti lock bar side. They even included a Zero Tolerance script inside the lockbar - a cool addition. I also really like the red carbon fiber scale, hopefully you can see the milling of the logo and the red in the CF in this picture, as well as the custom pivot hardware:

The knife is completely devoid of any markings on the CF side, which some people like the no-text look.

The curvy "Persian" design (my words, not Dima's) gives the knife a comfortable grip. The knife is very user friendly.

There are a lot of little details that you find, like the interesting and intentional texturing on the machined faces of the lockbar side of the knife, hopefully you can see in the following picture:

And when I say it is light, it is light even for a small knife, let alone a knife with this much blade!!

I note that the knife weighs the same as my Vic Waiter and my EDC Fenix flashlight -

And someone asked me to post an "in-hand" shot a while back - may as well include that here - I have XL hands -

If you are on the fence - jump! You can always sell the knife - ZT's tend to hold their value pretty well in my experience.

Nice mini-review and great pics. I like the 0462 more than anything ZT has put out in a long time.

Thanks for the pics and overview. This is one nice looking knife. I like the logo etched into the inside of the titanium slab. That pivot is custom level for sure. I think ZT is really upping their game as of late with their excellent variety and spot QC. I don’t have to worry about lockup, centering and other things like I do for many other companies that I’ve bought knives off of throughout my life. That is a huge assurance and one that can’t be overlooked.

I'm hoping to find one locally the next time I get the new blade itch. It love the 450 (but I gave it to my little brother for detailing my car) and the 460 looked great, but the extra size of the 462 makes it more attractive to me.
I agree. I had the 0460 but it was just a bit too small for me. This model looks just about right

I have all of the new 2018 releases so far, and the 0462 is my favorite of the bunch. I'm a huge fan of the Persian style knives, I just love the lines and flow of the design. I would agree that it's similar to the Shiro Sigma in many regards. Even if there is a 10% differential from the Shiro to the ZT, you're paying 5x the price to get it, not worth it for most.

Now, I would recommend the 0609 and 0393 if someone were to ask which to get, but that's only because they are more neutral in terms of design and grip. I think Persian designs as a whole are a more acquired taste. But this is the best production persian design that I can think of.
I agree that it is a relative bargain if you look at other production knives with similar materials. I really like the 0393 and 0609. I just wish I had the funds to buy all three and a CF PM2 with 52100 blade steel. Actually, there are a few 2017 ZT models that I sold last year that I would like to have back. So I need to start saving, I suppose

I'm on the fence. Guess I'm one of few who isn't wowed by the red CF. Hoping ZT will do a sprint iteration as they often do with so many of their models, featuring all titanium scales...the Polutchotkiy version. I'd be all over that.
The sprint runs will probably be out later this year, if I had to guess.

We are out of stock currently but have more coming in tomorrow late day. If no one has answered for you by the time ours come in, I will measure and get back to you! I am not a fan of Persian style blades but have to admit the 462 has been calling my name. It is a really good looking blade.
I saw your video where you disassembled the knife to show all the neat details that went into this particular model. This knife looks like it would carry quite well in the pocket

Love the design of the knife. Almost want to buy one in fact. But as with most ZT Models, its got one thing stopping me, that being the size. 8.9 inches is a bit out of the range of what i generally carry. And the 0460 is too small, so.

Still might pick one up, but ill have to handle it in person first to make sure.
It is a bit long but it seems that the curved handle and light weight might make it a comfortable carry in the pocket. If you handle one, let me know if that is indeed the case.

Well I own two BM Bedlams and this looks similar, I might actually carry this one as it has a better pocket clip and no protruding metal end piece to accidently hit my right hand against. Also its the only ZT this year that I think I will pick up, the other two models don't interest me that much.
I wonder what other models ZT will introduce this year. Maybe a 0850 variant of some sort?

I like mine. The thinner handle/blade reminds me of the 452. Doesn't take up as much pocket space, good flipping action, red in the carbon fiber, Persian style blade makes for a blade with more belly which for me makes me use more of the blade than I normally would. I opted to get the 462 before the 393.
That’s what I was thinking just by the design. It looks like it will carry very nice just by design. Thanks

My major gripe about this blade is that the body screws that go through the standoffs screw directly into the titanium side. It is the same on the 450 and the 460; however on the 452 there is a screw on each of the knife that screws into the standoffs. (Which I believe are aluminum so not great either)

My big issue with this is that means if the threads strip on the titanium side where the screw goes in then the whole lockside would have to be replaced. However in @mqqn ‘s pictures it appears this is not the case with the body screw closer to the clip. Mqqn can you confirm that?

Personally I think the knife is beautiful but for me I don’t love the design for my uses. Not only do I usually not prefer a trailing tip blade but I also prefer straighter handles to ones with dropped butts. That said it is a gorgeous knife. For someone living in the states where warranty work is less of an issue I wouldn’t hesitate at all to pull the trigger. (Or push button the flipper??? A more knifey idiom)

I have always considered the 460/462 to be the 450/452 series slightly more excentric brother. The 45(X) series has recieved great acclaim for a reason. Handling the 46(X) family at my local store almost had me buying one.

Thoughts? I need one. Stat. Not available at my dealer yet, but I am hoping this week, since the first ones seems to have landed at other European dealers. *fingers crossed*
Man, I need like 6 or 7 different models but am trying to choose just one at the moment. Tough decision!

I like that analogy. The 0460 series seems to be the odd ball relative of the 0450 series for sure. Nicely done!

Thanks @whitty! Unfortunately exactly 4” and up is illegal in my state and not OVER 4”. :(

They have a smaller version of the 462 called the 460. It is well under 4 inches.

Even the 462; ZT and other websites say the blade is actually 3.7 inches. It should be ok for you then.

Yep, they made a big mention about it since it was 3.7 in length with 3.7 oz weight. I am sure a LEO on a bad day could measure it to be 4 inches though, but legally if the company lists it at 3.7, you should be on the safe side.

I have the 0460 and really liked it so I intended to buy the 0462 but got sidetrack by the 0609 with the bronze titanium handles. :D I'll probably be picking up an 0462 next month.

As I said earlier, the laws in my state specifically measure edge length and not the length from tip to handle. Normally this works in my favor, I can carry my Spyderco Military even though it’s a 4” knife since the finger choil makes the edge less than 4”. I probably would be fine as I never do anything that would make me look suspicious to a LEO but I’d rather err on the side of caution.

As for the 460, I’ve looked at it and it’s on my maybe list. I grew up idolizing my dad’s Schrade LB7 and 12OT so I have a soft spot for larger (while still legal) knives.

Man I'm new to the forum how do I post pics? Sorry dumb ques, I know. Damn us millennials, half in but still always completely out of the loop...
