Thoughts on this Mammoth Bark inlay....it's an interesting one!

What an extraordinary piece! It's so hard to find MIB that has blues and greens in it nowadays. I love how the dark brown spots are sharp in the brown, and then diffused in the blue-green -- like pebbles in a beach scene.

I agree. As much as I love the creamy color of ivory, I find the blue-greens incredibly good looking.

Great catch - congrats.
While the colors, like brown, blue and green, are explained by the elements surrounding the tusk, the whith looks different.
I was wondering myself and would love to get an explanation.
Maybe you can contact one of the suppliers of Mammoth ivory, send a picture and ask them.
And please post the results.

Greetings,

I believe the white part is likely a resin....although it has specks of the fragmenting/jagged edge in it.
I figure it is a nice touch as it resembles how the ivory would absorb minerals from the ground and/or ice where it was preserved.

You could be right,but I just don't believe Mr.Reeve would use a resin...I believe that's natural..but who knows...looks great anyway...

not worth to stay in a collection, worth to be carried and enjoyed-used
looks interesting though, not crazy about it, that's why I'd use it

don't believe it will crack or get riuned easily

Mine is a daily user. Clipped to my pocket, which also houses my keys and a bullet pen. I use it for pretty much anything size appropriate. I decided if I was gonna sped this much on a knife, I would just use the darn thing, and I have. Shows no evidence at all.

This.

Use the knife without hesitation, Lisantica, it is a very nice piece of mammoth you own. I have a 2008 small LE mammoth which, like fespo, I carry and use daily. It lives in a pocket with keys, but never coins (get a coin jammed once and you'll learn about that one), and I work in a job which can be physical and although I may get banged around, only my pocket clip shows signs of wear.

A knife that is not used is merely a sharp paperweight.

I also subscribe to this mentality. That's probably the best way I've read it described:thumbup:

On the flip side, to each their own. Either way you have great taste in cutlery Lisa:)

Thanks all for your comments. I enjoy reading different points of view. Still haven't clipped it to my pocket, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it any less.

It's okay to use some. And not other's. Some of these are really an investment. Look at how many of us get a CRK and nothing else gets carried. ;) I still carry my Sage 1 though.

I've owned it over a year now and still haven't carried it.
I need to find out more info. on that back scale. I'll likely be contacting CRK about it.

I think it comes down to personal taste rather than fragility; some like an all smooth, ivory like surface, others, like me, prefer a mixture of texture and colors. I think it is superb and would keep it.

I love that analogy. Thank you for your thoughts Fooj.

Wow... one of the nicest I've ever seen Lisa! Post a pic in the Mammoth thread! I love it! If it were mine, I would not carry it ... but I am a wimp.

Thank you Locutus.
Serg, for some reason I thought it was in there, I'll double check and if not I'll add it over there.
