I have a question for you,
I recently got app. 200lbs of this steel given to me in brand new condition. So as not to prejudice your assessment of the steel composition I won't say what it is just yet. I'm just curious if it would be a good/passable steel for making blades from. Here's the numbers;
.74 to .86% Carbon,
.75 to 1.25% Manganese
.10 to .60% Silicon
Minimum Brinell (of unhardened surface) 310 or 370 dependant of grade ordered.
Does this material seem like it would be ok for knife making or would the level of manganese and silicon make it a bad choice? It was free and I couldn't bring myself to just walk away from it.
TIA
Steve
