Thoughts on thumb studs

Has anyone else ever wondered why thumb studs haven't evolved? With knives being made with cutting edge (pun intended) materials, and super tight tolerances, thumb studs seem to pretty much stay the same. Personally I think Benchmade has the best thumb studs in my admittedly limited experience. I'd like to see knives that are designed for right-handed people have studs that make knife opening easier for us lefties. Maybe make them slightly larger and meatier, without compromising aesthetics.

Or maybe I'm just tired and cranky from the heat and just rambling....:D

i think kershaw tried to make them better by doing the ramped studs but i think they abandoned those( i could be wrong but i have not seen them for quite some time)

i also believe that benchmades studs are the best, the beefier the better for me.

Like on the Zing. I love these knives. I have two - black and orange. The thumb studs are really good. That shape works great - very comfortable to use too.

CRKT and Cold Steel have done the most "experimenting" with thumb stud styles but I think it just boils down to what works. Computer keyboards evolved from the typewriters of the past but the keyboard layout is still the QWERTY-system developed to slow down typists on the old clackity typewriters. Humans get used to something that works and it just sticks.

Burger Exkalibur's and the like are the most interesting to me since they get around having a thumb stud all together.

IMO, Kershaw's ramped studs are the evolution. They are so much more comfortable and I get a good purchase every time. I think people dislike them for their appearance, I don't get it.
