Thoughts on Zippo Blu?

Is there any other flint-ignited butane lighter out there that might work better? So far the Blu is the only torch I've come across that wasn't a piezo.

I think that was the big selling point when Zippo Blu came out. That it was the only Butane lighter that wasnt Piezo.

I use a zippo daily and it will last on one tank for more than a week... Usually two to three weeks. Don't know who told you zippos run out in a few days but they either got a bad one or just don't know what they're talking about.

..I think the QC of zippo has gone down over the years. I used to have a couple and they would dry out.. ..and I'm a regular smoker..

..of course.. ..w/ all the facial hair I carry, I no longer carry a zippo any more because they do tend to flame up w/ a fresh refill. ;) ..that was an embarassing night..

But they aren't great for starting fires anyway.. they're smoking lighters... made for lighting cigarettes, cigars, and pipes.

..ugh. ..don't you ever light a pipe or good cigar w/ a zippo.. ..that's a tobacco no no. ;)

As a related question, if you had a butane lighter with a burnt-out piezo could you light it with a sparklight?

Like every refillable butane lighter I've seen, the Zippo is very picky about the quality of the fuel you use. Just one filling with an inferior fuel, will make them stop working.

I just lit up a Robaina with mine a minute before seeing this thread. As a cigar lighter, I think the blu excels. The only problems I have had were attributed to a build up of air that had to be purged as shown on zippo's website. As a fire lighting tool I have to agree it is less than ideal. As has been mentioned it burns a lot of gas, and the non-adjustable flame is stronger than needed. Mine has been to camp, but only for cigars around the fire, not to light the fire!
