Hope you stick with it. A true EDC knife with longevity has a charm all its own. A few days ago I met a guy with a Benchmade AFCK that he's carried every day for 17 years. It was pretty sweet.

You're right. Here's my old man's 5 year old 556 along with my 551-1702.

How about an update:

My plan for carrying this knife exclusively has changed slightly. My wife gave me a Bugout for my birthday so I carry it when I'm in lighter clothing like gym shorts, etc. I was going to use my Salt for that but I ended up selling it as I didn't care for the RIT job I did on it (red isn't for me). I also ended up purchasing a Crooked River that I carry on the weekends in jeans. It's too big for an office knife.

So the Grip is my primary EDC Monday - Friday and I'm really enjoying it. The M390 hasn't even needed stropping yet.

That's pushing the boundaries of EDC challenge but I'll accept it ;) You and I seem to have similar knife taste. I off duty EDC the Bugout and on duty EDC a custom Griptilian. I'm tempted by a Mini Crooked River but so far have held strong lol. How do you like the micarta?

I know I know...

I just love the CR design so much. If I could comfortably get away with it at work I would.

I have been thinking of a full size Griptilian, particularly the 1702, for some time and the sale price was too good to resist. It will be joining a 555-1 and a 556, both in regular use. I will have to find out if over 3" is OK at work. Thanks for your reviews!

I'm a big 551 fan, I like the larger size, it fits my hand better. I've always loved the Axis Lock, ever since the 730 Ares came out. The ergosterol of the knife are fantastic, (well aside from the lanyard hole placement  )

The only thing I didn't like was the diamond texture on the scales. Those little points were like a bastard file on balsa wood and tore up my pockets so I sanded them all down so they looked ok and still gave me traction but it's easier to remove and didn't shred my pockets.

Best of luck with your quest.
