A really old thread was necromanced relatively recently, concerning the type of steel used in Exacto blades. I mean it was like a decade old. I and several others enjoyed the thread and contributed to it. I think mod reaction depends on the thread's content, because this forum is, essentially, an historical record and that needs to be factored into things.

I'm glad I asked!
The mod role is still pretty new to me, and I've found that there's a lot of room for interpretation and freedom to make the call. I don't have an authoritarian impulse, but I tend to approach my responsibilities with a thoroughness that even I find annoying at times.
One note, at the risk of airing laundry, is that the past few years have been quite challenging for us, and I know that some of that angst has spilled out in some of my posts and messages. That's all in the past, and my goal moving forward is to be the best steward of this forum that I can be.

You're doing fine Lorien - good thread

The whole point of moderation is for a mod to use their best judgement. I think this is just such a case. I would suggest, however, that old threads be allowed to resurrect when they contain solid content - that’s where moderation comes in, I’d think.

if there is new info presented that is an obvious improvement upon the old suggestions, think it could be a good thing. but its also a case by case basis that the mods should decide on their own. i think you are doing a fine job.

Leave them alone.

I've learned a lot from resurrected threads. Often times the time span adds additional perspective.

Sometimes I do a search on a knife I bought, only to find the thread with info has been locked by a knee jerk reaction over a weird ressurection. If someone's being a jackass give 'em some points instead of locking the thread.

never understood why this is such an issue for people
if new or useful information is contained in a thread, let it continue

bad or inappropriate content, irregardless of age, should be locked
