Three blems for 11/6

You can visit the website and see most of these first hand. The key is what Auntie has on hand. They aren't really taking custom orders right now but she might have some real beauties already in hand.
You've established a dialogue, she's a super classy lady and will fix you up proper once you determine what you want.
Let her know you want a nice show piece, something fancy. My Trisuli Ghaule is not super fancy but really nice.
Auntie will have the best solution.

Thank you bawanna. I wrote her an email with all your thoughts and everyone else's. Im hopeful something special turns up. I do appreciate all your input and im grateful. Now i will look to see what my first kuhkri will be. So many choices............it's a great problem to have right!

Please keep the gang in the loop on this one, I want to see this through to the end, hopefully up to and including a picture of dad when he gets the special new blade. Just gotta love ole guys, we'll all be one someday.
Ready to help anyway I can.
Oh and I'm originally from Missouri too so you know you can trust me. We don't bred liars in Missouri.

I have a British Army Service and I love it a lot. Fully functional, I like the combination of chopping and thrusting ability, fits well in hand, and has beautiful form. As you can see, I really love mine. The other model I like is the Ang Khola, I think it's a little more for chopping, that's the task I use mine for. The Kobra, or Gelbu Special, are quick and fast weapons, for sure, more like swords than knives, lol.

Of course, there are others on this forum much more knowledgable then myself, and I am sure they will have input as well.

I hereby promise to fulfill my quest with all of you at my side. It shall be my honor.
Waiting for a return email from yangdu.........believe it or not, her email just came forth.......i'll be right back

Yangdu answered a question about what i want, but nothing on my dad. So i replied agin about a fancy carved kuhkri, so now i will wait again patiently and get back to everyone when i hear something. Later!

The British Army Service, the WWII or the M43 would all be nice options for you or your dad. Not super fancy but classy.

For you the AK is entirely doable as a user, it's a genuine beast.

I wonder if its just a "ooops i forgot" or?.........curious. I guess i've mailed a check or two and forgot to sign them. Same principal i guess.

No reply from YANGDU about a KUKRI for my Dad. I will play the waiting game and keep everyone updated when I get a recommendation. Thanks again everyone.

Has anyone ever heard of a hi kami forgetting to put his makers mark on a blade?

It happens occasionally, but not often. These knives go through a number of processes: forging, sharpening, engraving, making and attaching the handle, polishing, etc. Some of the steps might be done by helpers rather than the original kami, and not necessarily right after the blade is forged. Judging by photos of the shop, a single kami might have quite a few blades in various stages of completion. A helper might do part of the engraving, maybe miss a day, someone doesn't notice, and the blade gets passed on to a finishing step without the kami mark.

Another factor is that HI sometimes will use a new kami or helper who might be skilled but isn't aware of exactly how HI does things. Apparently, other khukuri makers do not have kami marks on their blades, so it is not something that a new person would necessarily think about.

And a wonderful pile of steel she has too. Very incredible.

I figured no more trips to Reno for me but before I left town I decided 4 days in town and 30 minutes with Auntie was all wrong. Next time 3 days with Auntie and 1 or 2 hanging out at the Harrah's car museum and getting robbed by the machines, maybe with Auntie riding along.

I'll go again now.

Let me know when you are at Aunty's. I've never been there but it's just a few hours drive to Reno. I really have no reason going there other than Kukris and Reno911, but if you or other HI fans are there too it might just be motivation enough to make a trip.

We should go see her during the week of Hot August Nights or Ribfest in September...:)
