Three Gun Armory

Long Island here. There's nothing left to hunt. So it's Suburbopolian Survivalist vs. Peter Panic.

Remington 870P
Mossberg 500
And, if you'd be so kind, I'll trade my 3rd weapon for a harnessed 00 buck ammo wagon...

10 gauge shotgun
50 bmg sniper rifle
.32 pistol

actually

12 gauge pump shotgun
.22 lever action rifle
.357 SD revolver

This is somewhat of a tough one...

I'm in ND, would want to be able to take everything from furbearers such as fox, coyote, mountain lion, raccoon, muskrat and mink to meat providers from squirrel and rabbit to whitetail, antelope, mule deer, elk and moose as well as winged critters such as dove, pheasant, grouse, partridge, duck and goose.

So I would say:
1) 12ga pump shotgun-can take all game with the appropriate load, from small shot through slugs.
2) .25-06 either bolt action or single shot. This will work for everything from coyote through moose with the appropriate load(s) and choice of shots.
3) .22LR or .22WMR-I'm really torn on this one as I love both. Any action. this would be for everything smaller than a coyote or the extreme need shot on something bigger.

Wow.........i thought i would be the only one picking a .22 mag. :)

Guess its more popular than I thought. My Henry is an absolute tack driver out to 100 meters with Win super X ammo.

I'll exclude pistols as they are mainly for self-defense for me. My top three would be:

1) .308 Win. Very versatile and gives you good range. It'll take 99% of the game in the lower 48.

2) 12 gauge pump. A combo barrel would really increase the flexibility and I think the shotgun is the premier "survival" tool.

3) .22LR. Excellent for small game; inexpensive for maintaining marksmanship proficiency and a ton of ammo is compact.

As to my actual choices...well, it would be my Savage 110FCM Scout in .308; Mossberg 500 12ga combo; and my newly acquired Marlin 981T .22LR bolt rifle. Of course this is the cabin arsenal and not what I'd be dragging around with me on foot. With these three, I could bring down large game out to 300 yards comfortably (more than enough in my neck of the woods), drop anything that flies and take all small game. Both the .308 and the .22LR have scopes and iron sights as back up.

My choice (excluding handguns) would be...

A good over/under 12 gauge.....
30-06 (with such a wide variety of bullet weights it would be the workhorse)
375 H&H (for the big dangerous critters and the biggest African calibre that I can shoot without flinching to badly.....:D)

All that being said I own none of the above and I have never shot anything bigger than an Impala.....With my 308 Win.....

Ideally, for outdoor recreation and hunting here in Idaho...
Tac Ops X-Ray 66 (.300 Win Mag) For elk, deer and bighorn. Animals are real skiddish around here, if you give them a reason to run they will-and a long way away. Most hunters stay a ridge away from their game, and that requires a very very long range. US Optics glass
10mm commander-sized 1911, for Bear, lion, wolf etc (or people) defense when backcountry backpacking. Novak night sights ftw.
870 Wingmaster-birds are in season right now. You can't beat a 200 dollar shotgun with a silk smooth action and to-hell-and-back reliability.

Realistically, I have a .270 700 Sendaro, ,a Mossberg 590 persuader and a Taurus 651 357 revolver that have been getting the job done. Until I have another 10,000 dollars to spare to upgrade the current armory I'll make do.

The CO Front Range and Mts and Northern WI and the UP form my primary stomping and hunting grounds.

From my rack:
the .22 Marlin 39TDS for small game and upland bird head shots… great for carrying in my backpack too for extended trips
the Cimarron 1892 TD .357Mag… .38Sp semi-wadcutters for small game and upland bird shots and Buffalo Bore .357s for deer and black bear… also great for carrying in my backpack instead of the .22
the first gen Browning BAR 30’06 when I need to reach out further in the open country
all carry peep sights
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Depending, I also usually have either a .22 kit gun or a .357 revolver close at hand and possibly a Pearson recurve instead of the long arm.

In Oz - Rabbits and Foxes, and occasionally a roo for a farmer but could also do deer, goats adn pigs if wanted

So:

Blaser R93 - all centrefire calibres (though I have .223 barell which I use, and 308 which I don't)

Sako Quad - all rimfire calibres (though I really use 17 hmr and .22lr)

Miroku Mod 70 12G over and under

But if had to survive on one gun for a year - it would be my CZ 452 deluxe 22lr. It may not technically be the best rifle, or calibre, but With that and a case of ammunition the family would not go hungry. And in this country for standard law abiding citizens defense is not a major issu. And if it was TEOWAWKI situation I reckon a couple of shots over peoples heads from any rifle would be a strong deterrent.

My choices are a bit eclectic I guess:

Mossbrg 590A1 in 20in barrel, open choke. 50yd accurate with slugs, fine for sub 30yd game with the right load and aim. This would likely be the most used larger game weapon.

AK-47 - You can kill any game in the Americas with a few shots. Great self-defense weapon if needed. Without conventional hunting laws I believe this is a great compromise for utility. Likely the least used.

Pistol...I could easily select the Ruger MKIII Comp model to round out the selection. The other arms cover self-defense, and a 6 7/8in barreled Ruger is a solid 50yd gun with practice. You could take all reasonable small game within those ranges. Likely the most used.

Yeah, use mine quite a bit these days. Works great, makes those people pee a little. . .:D

Central valley to the sierras:

long barreled .22 revolver. (I'd prefer 6 inch with target grade sights)

Remington 870, 20ga- 18 inch vang comp (or slug bore, I don't think anyone makes a 20 ga vang comp) and a 24 inch adjustable choke barrel. Ghost rings.

Ruger .357 carbine. (this one is open to debate. I want a carbine caliber semi auto, .357, .44, 10mm, even 7.62x39)
