Nice little group there, Vince.

I've been enjoying carrying my Schrade 89OT Blazer this week.

Those are cool. I too recently received an Old Timer from a friend in the mail this week.

Edited to add that the title of this thread refers to the knives and not Vince, Elliott and myself. Well, maybe Elliott.

What size and model did you get, Mike? Strangely enough, mine came from a friend as well.

Hey!!!! I resemble that remark!!!!! Watch your step, sonny. LOL!

It's funny how we used to take these knifes for granted. I used to carry a Uncle Henry small stockman with the fancy Staglon:thumbup: It was a very nice knife.

Yeah,I gave one to my Son's friend,he's in My Wifey's BS Troop...
Now,when we go over & visit them,he shows me his knives, and I almost feel like asking a 14 yr old boy to trade it back for like a SAK or something,LMAO !!!! Talk about feeling like a kid again

Truth is though, knives like this are on display over here,I carry mostly custom slips now...

Yes Sir! Old Uncle Henry was an true artist with that Staglon.;) I hope India government doesn't expand their embargo to include the Stagalon deer.

A mere cursory review of this thread reveals more than "Three Old Timers." ;)

And in order not to sound like another little kid, and in an attempt to preserve a modicum of decorum within this distinguished forum, I shall admit that...

...I got one in the mail toooooooooo!! Nanner nanner boo boooooo!!! :D:p:D

Hmmm, Rob, I wonder if you can jerky staglon deer?

Nice knives guys. I am still sick that Schrade went under. Fewpop, I like that 33ot you got their. The knife that I have had the longest is a 33ot. Great little pocket knives.

I'm carrying a 34OT around in my pocket over here in Iraq. Now THAT's a REAL "tactical knife!" I keep one here, and I have one at home I carry and use that was picked up in Panama back in '87, and used since. Although the new Schrade collectors may wince and holler, I have reprofiled the sheepsfoot and spey blades on both and "rounded off" all the sharp corners to make them more "pocketable." They are truly handy knives to have on you all the time! If you also happen to have a SAK on you somewhere, then you really are set!

Nice photos, and a nice little set of Old Timers. Too bad they don't get more attention here in the Traditionals section, but there are a few folks who share incredible amounts of Old Timer details down in the Schrade Collectors Forum. You should check it out, if you haven't already.

I'm a huge fan of the Old Timers also, and my collection is currently on display at the Raton New Mexico Scouting Museum, if you're ever this way.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

Ron, I guess I am as true of a "Schrade collector" as there is around, and I wince and hollar not. These knives were Schrade's most popular pattern and for the very reasons you have found for yourself.

Made from 1964-2004 (40 years), they produced a paltry 20,000 that first year and increased sales nearly every year afterward. For instance, in the year you got one of your knives, 1987 they produced and shipped nearly a half million of the 34OT. And as late as 2002 they shipped a quarter million of them.

First and foremost, they were meant to be used as tools. Alter and enhance them as you see fit. Carry them and enjoy them in good health. I have three of the Uncle Henry 897UH stockmans myself in EDC rotation. I am prone to misplace one from time to time and "never fear, an Uncle Henry is near!".

I prefer the carbon bladed Old Timer line usually, but my work involves caustic salt, soda and chlorine as well as acids. I do use them daily. Sure, I have limited editions and commems that are drawer queens, but I also have production users of most patterns, both folding and fixed.

Codger,

I have an 897UH that I also rotate as an EDC pocketknife when back home. I've had that one since the late-80's and it's a little "pocketworn", but I love that long, Turkish clip main blade! It's just the trick for some of the more delicate work one does with a pocketknife.

Nice little set!! I still have an Old Timer Muskrat that I purchased back around 1979..
