1) you can throw any hawk, some work better than others. For throwing choose a hawk whose handle is not permanantly fixed into the handle. For this reason I would not recommend the CS vietnam hawk
2) do a search on this forum under "tips for throwing hawks" . It has the info you need to get started.
You can go to: http://www.throwzini.com/ for some great help, or you can get the McEvoy book, or you can just get out there and throw the hawk.
Start at about 15-20 feet, keep your wrist stiff, it's all in the elbow & arm. The hawk should make one full spin and stick. If you don't get a full spin take a step back. If you get more than a full spin take a step forward until you get your pace. Make sure you're throwing consistently. You should be sticking that hawk in less than 30 minutes.
Watch out for the synthetic handles, though. If you hit on the handle it can bounce back at you at the same speed you threw it. Better step aside quick or lose important body parts.
