Throwing Hawk

I know Cold Steel's quality varies, and their marketing makes me want to :barf:
However, I have a rifleman's hawk and a trail hawk that are going strong after 4 hard years of throwing. They even have the same handles:D However, i don't miss often. I've been throwing for about 15 years off and on. I wouldn't use one for wood working, but for a beater thrower they are great. Before my time with HI, i took a CS hawk with me for pounding tent pegs and personal protection. There was a time when you could hand me a choice of a pistol or a hawk to hit a moving target at 10 paces out, and i would pick the hawk every single time. If you're not against a none traditional thrower then you might try one of those hibben throwing axes. I know. I know. That sounds n00bish, but my wife before she was my wife, before she was my fiance, bought me a hibben thrower for Christmas when I was 17. It's still chucking just fine. That sucker ZIPS too. My hawks kind of lob and then stick. My hibben thrower kind of zings.
At any rate, just have fun with it. I'm under the impression that you can learn to throw anything. I know it didn't matter me as a kid. I used to throw old chef's knives and butcher knives long before I picked up one of those super sleek throwing knives. My first throwing axe was a crappy 7 dollar one with a metal shaft. It bent before the summer was up, but jeeze it must have taken a hundred bad throws before it went south:)

Good luck!
Jake
