Throwing Tomahawk

I throw a CS Rifle man and an old CS Plains man witch is just a RM with the hammer cut off. Both throw and stick with authority if thrown with authority.

The wife throws a Crazy Crow 'Black hawk' that I re profiled the edge on.

I also use a blackhawk which i'm told throws nicely too. (I use it as a tool)

I want to buy like 3 tomahawks so that I don't have to retieve it after every throw. Should I buy all of the same tomahawk or different ones?

Definitely buy all three the same. Head weight and handle length make big differences in the rotation. When ever I buy a new hawk I have to spend an after noon tuning so it will match my other hawks. If you only through one hawk it is not so important because your throwing stile will adapt to that hawk, but when you through groups you want them to all be the same.

I would suggest getting the large model Black Hawk rather than the small .
I also have a Black Hawk and a CS Frontier Hawk. The CS can be modified by removing the finish and re-blueing. It looks nice after the mods. Both throw well. I throw both and don't make any changes to my throwing style b/c they are different hawks.

A buddy has a H&B hawk and I have seen it and thrown it. I always pimp H&B because they are forged and come at a fair price. IMO they are about the best bang for the buck. Other than a spare handle or two you might want to get a sheath. Remember.... don't put a wedge in a throwing hawk's handle!

Ughhh!!!!! I can't decide between the Blackhawk and the CS Norse. I can get them both at the same price. I think the Blackhawk looks cooler, but I don't know which is better quality, and which throws better. I plan on getting 3 of the same, so I want to make sure I get the same one. Help me out, which is better?

I throw CS but the Black hawk I got for the Ol' lady seems like as good a hawk.

The CS is made in Taiwan, blade is thinner and the handle is stouter.

The BH is a lot fatter (wider), I thinned it quite a bit on the belt sander, still stout. Cast in Canada. Finnish is a little rougher (casting) but won't hurt performance.

For the same money I would call it a toss up. Get one of each and try them out. Get more of the one you like for throwing and use the other for a tool.

Get both then decide which one you like best and sell the other on ebay or something and order two or three more of the ones YOU like.

For the price of 2 you mine as well get a Fort Turner much better thrower than Cold Steel plus hand forged in the states instead of cast in taiwan. Head/handle attachment on a FT way better than CS as well, much less of a pain in the ass.

I have been throwing my CS rifleman hawk for years. It hits super hard. And it makes a good camp axe as well. Tough as nails, and the replacement handles are cheap and easy to get. Just take the set screw out (alen wrench screw) before you throw it, if you don't and it hits handle first it can split the handle.
