i'm a recent middle finger convert myself

Both middle and thumb. Love the options on Spyderco's. I've two flippers to do even more options 😁. Middle finger seems the most snappy and positive deployment though.

I use my thumb on most Spydies, the exception being the Para 2 or Manix 2 where I may use the middle finger flick :eagerness:

I never tried my middle finger before reading this. It does work, but I've used my thumb so long it may be hard to convert.

I hurt my middle finger trying to flick it open. Also, isn't unorthodox to use a finger other than the thumb in the thumbhole?

Depends on the knife. The Tuff will will rip your fingernail off if you try to be cute and flick it. Manix works well with the middle finger, etc.

All of the above depending on model. I've used the thumb to gently open and to flick. I've used the middle finger, the pointer finger and even the ring finger to flick. From time to time I'll break out a "spydie drop". As they say, variety is the spice of life. Now, next question, how to you CLOSE your spydie? lol...another thread perhaps.

i mostly use my thumb,as i really think using your meddle finger is generality vary hard on the knifes lock-pin!but i also carry a domino and southard flipper that have internal lock-pins and dose not seem to heart!because of there blade tang engages/rest on the pin,i think it helps prevent damage!never any problems with these two flippers.

Both. Depends on situation.
That's the beauty of the mechanism. Versatility, and not just limited to one method of consistent and easy operation!
The void that is the Spyderhole we all love and enjoy. It's great for what isn't there. :D

For my liner/compression lock Spydies, I can flick with my middle finger or my thumb. No real preference. My backlock Stretch is solely a thumb flick, maybe it isn't broken in enough yet to flick with the fun finger. Time will tell!

 Exactly!! I know I previously said I prefer the middle finger flick but I actually use several methods to open my Spydies including slowly opening the blade with my thumb.

I've got short fingers. Middle is doable, but not always reliable. Thumb it is.

Both and other ways also.
I like opening mine in different ways. My favorites are my Domino and Southard........a hole and a flipper!! Great having opening options!
