thumb or middle finger?

I use my thumb to open my knife in a controlled manner. No "flicking" involved.

I don't slam car doors closed either.

For my Manix 2 LW pretty much always my middle finger. it is brainlessly easy and fast.

My Dragonfly I use my thumb; just works better for a small knife.
My Cricket pretty much I just open it like a nail nick. That's OK though I LOVE THAT KNIFE !

Here is an interesting vid of someone who can handle a Cricket. LEFT HANDED NO LESS ! ! ! ! Both hands actually.
She puts me to shame that's for sure. Good review as well.
Note she uses middle finger then changes mid way to thumb. She moves like a cobra !

Just checked that vid out Bagger!! She does a nice job and has great hands!!!
One thing that really stood out for me??? I have seen guys posting how hard it is to handle the Manix lock. So tight they need 2 hands........she rocked it one handed with no effort at all!!
Cool chick!!
Thanks for posting that up brother!

Haha this made me laugh.

Sometimes I middle finger flick for fun, but I find it less intuitive than just opening with my thumb. Most of the time just a controlled sweep of the thumb as aquaman said.

Pretty sure that is spydiegirl, a recent regular on the Spyderco forum... I've seen her posting in here as well.

I use my middle finger on the military, pm2, and manix. Just a gentle flick to break the detent and they open with no more force than a slow thumb. No need to slam them open either way.

Never could figure out the middle finger action, I think my hand might be a bit large. Mine just absolutely fly open with my index finger though!

I'd say I'm about 50/50 thumb/index finger when opening via a digit. My PM2's I open simply by holding back the comp lock tab and swinging the blade open by inertia only. A recent vid by Michael Janich on the evolution of the Yojimbo2 also shows him opening them that way by default. :)

Thumb
Pointer finger
Middle finger
Spydie drop (pinch deploy)
Reverse Spydie drop
And just snapping it out with the wrist

They all work

Use depends on mood

Pointer and middle finger is a more subtle almost a gentlemens way of opening with middle finger being most refined

Thumb is general use just popping my knife out

Also with thumb you can "roll" the blade out slowly and in controlled manner for the more knife averse among us

Spydie drop is for the occasional ha can't do this with your thumb stud

Reverse Spydie is just showing off

And wrist snap that's just plain cool
