I used my 27 oz. LL BEAN Canteen (made by Klean Kanteen) for two weeks teaching the WLC Basic and Advanced Courses. At no time, did the canteen leak, take on any funny odors or prove to be too heavy to carry. I made a braided paracord net holder for it and it rode nicely on my belt or in my pants cargo pocket. LL BEAN has a solid product here and I highly recommend buying from them!

Why the ll bean version? Why not just order them from Kleen? Just curious.

I have 5 Kleens of various sizes. While I like them, I wanting to see how well they hold up before I form an opinion. For example, drop a nalgene full of water and it bounces. I have done that more times than I care to admit. Drop a kleen and they dent. I just wondering how much denting it is going to take.

My 5 (almost 6) year old has one it made it for 2 hours around the house before its first dent. Wait and see I guess.

Why Bean? Because I had gift coupons from my credit card. Can't turn down free shipping! Also, stainless bottles are getting harder to find since the BP hype/scare.

Hey Kev, did you boil with it or use it for any hot beverages, or do you recommend nt doing that?

Thanks, Kev. I have been eye-balling those since the last catalog arrived. My wife orders from LL Bean and I know if I get her some water bottles with their name on it, she'll use them. I have been holding out for Guyot for my outdoor use (wider mouth) but may give up and get some of these for myself too.

Also interested in whether you boiled water in them.

Anyone else - any recommendations on a carrier that will hang on a horizontal7/8" diameter tube? She uses a wheel chair and her water bottle carrier is shot. Second time we have found a cheap carrier that could be attached in such a manner and, by the time it wears out, you can't find them anywhere. I have no problem paying for something that works - it's just that what HAS worked has been cheap.

Jeff, get nylon webbing and it will only take a few minutes to stitch them to make a carrier the exact size you want, and add a couple of fastex buckles at each end to snap it to the tube.

Maxpedition also has insulated bottle carriers, much more complicated, of course. You can use the molle attachment points to secure it to the tube.

Those look great! Glad it held up good. My sigg is super dented up. Dropped it twice, and it looks like it has been used to play basketball with..... Are the kleans/ LL beans more durable than the alluminum counterparts? Do guyots have a denting issue being double walled?

Jeff- klean kanteen makes a sling for their bottles. Im sure you could rig up one to work.

I've got several Sigg bottles and one of the larger Klean Kanteens. Like them both, but the added capacity and wider mouth of the KK make it my preferred metal bottle.

No funny odors? Geez how long were you out? If anything of mine has "no funny odors" I'm worried. Funny odors are part of the fun aren't they?
Thanks for the review, I'll be looking into these.

One of the students had a stainless bottle with a suspicious odor. I told him to put orange juice in it then wash it out with water. Odor problem solved. Another student tried it and it also worked for her. Give it a shot.

Great ideas as always! Thanks Kev.

Another option for odors is Oxy-Clean powder...that stuff will remove any stains or oders!

I have a few Klean Kanteens as well as a couple of the Guyot bottles. I much prefer the wider mouth of the Guyot and the threading is much better IMHO than Klean Kanteens. I still like the Klean Kanteens, but their threaded tops are pretty messy if your trying to drink on the move or if they get sloshed around a lot. It's a small peeve, but they are still a good alternative. I must say, I haven't used a Kanteen bottle in a fire yet, but it does seem a little thinner than the Guyot bottles. The one big advantage of the Klean Kanteen bottles is their slimmer profile for smaller pockets or sleeves on the side of packs. Their small bottles are great for the kids as well.

Denture cleaning tablets work wonders for cleaning bottles, hydration bladders etc....

Cool idea. My wife used to clean my stainless thermos with baking soda and hot water and it worked wonders. Stored with a paper towel stuffed in and sticking out (lid off) keeps them odorless as well.

I'll check out the sling, JW. Thanks. Anyone know of a good stainless cup that nests with them - one with a folding handle? GI canteens/cups have me spoiled. I have used Kydex rather creatively to sole a few "accessiblity" issues as well but the soft pouches don;t get in the way when stwoing it in the back of the car.

I'm now a fan also. I get free shipping with the Bean card so I got two and a Sharpmaker. I also had a $100 GC to spend at Bean. I like the canteens a lot.

Saw these in my last LL Bean catalog, now I'll have to get some.....thanks!!

I like the fact that they have a few different sizes and all have a wide mouth.

I hope they make a sippie top like SIGG has for kids.
