thumbstud or hole?

It depends on the knife. The stud is better on knives like my BM 921 and 940, but I love the opening hole on my AFCK.

Maryanne or Ginger? Britney or Christina? High carbon or stainless? Less filling or Tastes great?

ARRGGHH? My brain hurts...

(Oh yeah, thumb stud) :D

I prefer the hole to the stud in my knives but that doesn't mean I don't own any folding knives with a thumb stud. I don't mind the hump in the blade but I'd rather not have anything projecting out from it. When I'm working in the field I often only carry my EDC and a Leatherman Wave and I sometimes need to perform animal necropsies (is that how you spell that?) which is basically a rough disection. On larger animals the thumbstud gets in the way of deep cuts unless it's right up against the handle. Also, IMO the hole is just easier to use.

It's not what you asked for, but personally I like flippers best, with the Wave as a runner-up (because of the decreased versatility - it's only useful if it's in your pocket).

When it comes to hole vs. thumbstud, the former is my favorite.

Maryanne, Britney, no preference, tastes great, and thumbstud (but like Quiet Storm I prefer a flipper).

Even when a knife has ambi studs often the scales on left aren't relieved like the right, making the stud kinda hard to get to for a southpaw. After the hole I like the flipper. And if I had two bills to drop on a folder I wouldn't mind trying a waved Emerson.

P.S. Maryanne, I'll take Shakira over Britney or Christina, either, and whiskey tastes great AND is less filling.

I've had a thumbstud come apart and fall out before. It's one more thing to go wrong. Sometimes, the fewer parts, the better. I like the elegantly simple thumbhole.

On the "whole"( ), the hole is probably more versitile, especially with gloves.. but you do have to put up with the "hump".
