Ti bromide?

Anyone have any experience or info with Ti bromide? I like black blades but not the way they get scratched up. I hear this stuff is different. Is it?

 

Ti tetrabromide is a very volatile substance, used to purify titanium. It's not used for coatings.
The coatings are Ti-carbide(gray), -nitride(deep yellow) or -carbonitride(dark gray).

I wonder if he means the new ceramic like coating that is just starting to be used. Titanium Boron Nitride or something like that?
