I have had it done on 440C (TiN) the gold coating. I am pleased with the results and so were my customers that asked for it. Reports from the field indicate that they have not had to sharpen their knives yet so I have no information on how the blades work sharpened on one side only.

The blades were heat treated to Rc 57 and were sharpened to a razor edge before coating. Coating did not affect the sharpness. A second batch run a week later did come out a slightly different colour but colour control is apparently not an exact science according to the coater.

Does this type coating prevent surface rust on high carbon blades? What's the cost and who can I contact to have blades done? How does this coating compare to blueing a blade?

150 CDN sounds very expensive, i have recieved an offer from a danish tool manufacturer, who would do it for about 100DKR (aprox. 15 usd)i havent had it done yet so i dont know if the price will hold, but i hope so.

I terms of corrosion resistance, i have been told that the coatings will increase protection but not elliminate corrosion.
It is however naerly as hard as diamond, and i have tried to remove some of these coatings with normal sharpening stones and it can be done but it takes a long time.
