Got this pup in the mail today and lets just say I am thinking about sending it back. It does not feel like typical Spyderco quality IMO The action of the blade feels like a cheap framelock. I have owned a fair shar of Ti framelocks Umnum, Seb, SnG, SMF, ZT301, and skirmish. This ranks IMO below all of them AND I LOVE SPYDERCOS AND MILIES. It feels like a boker Subcom in it's opening just plain nasty. I will give it some thought before returning but as is I'd rather just have a stock Millie.

Do you have any other Spyderco Ti framelocks? It might feel just like a Ti RIL Sage. Can you be a little more specific than just "nasty"? That doesn't really tell anything? Is it gritty, hard to open? Blade centered?

I have a ZT 0300 and the B/M Skirmish, I've owned a CR knife and I think the Ti Military is a lot tighter than the B/M and ZT to open but very close to the CR new out the box.
It's not as smooth to open as a regular Military either. Has a bit more pressure on the blade from the lock. I like it myself and attribute any difference in opening between it and a regular Military to the lock difference. Locks up nice and tight and I don't mind a bit more resistance in opening myself.
( the blade is pretty tight in my Ti Military, you aren't going to grab the handle and flick the blade out like I can on my B/M 630 but it's still smooth just tighter. I don't mind it)

Not sure what to tell you as I am not clear on what is meant by "nasty" opening.

The first few cycles on mine were pretty tight, and I assumed this was related to 2 things.
1. The detent ball/blade were not "broken in"
2. The spring tension on the lock bar is MUCH higher on my Ti RIL.

The only complaint I have (and it is on all my militarys) is the last portion of deployment between where the ball drops off the blade and where the lock engages is sticky...and seems to be more so on the Ti RIL. A couple times the blade hung up there and I had "false lockup" where I thought the blade was locked, but it wasn't.

BINGO sorry I did not describe it better. Guess I am dismayed. My other Millies have never had this nor have any framelocks except the low end ones like Subcoms

Graphite may help but I am astonished that it even felt that way. Before I try the graphite though I need to decide on whether I am keeping it or not. Def not what I expect a 200 dollar offering from Spyderco to feel like. AND REMEMBER this is my subjective opinion. Ut I think is inherent to the Ti Mil design and I am deciding if this design is for me or I will just stick with the regular G10 slabbed Millies and leave my Ti Framelock purchases to other companies.

Boy, I was all fired up that this Ti Millie was going to be a knife for the ages. I'm wondering now. :grumpy:

That rough feel when the tang falls off the ball just before the lockbar falls into place where the "false lockup" can happen actually smooths up over time. At first it's quite noticeable, almost a grinding noise/feel. But it goes away and smooths out. Do about two hundred cycles and squirt some remoil into the pivot/lock area. You'll see.

I suspect that this effect will be greatly diminished once broken in. My G-10 models all exhibited it a lot at first and over time it becomes harder to perceive.

The spring tension on the Ti is substantially greater though, so perhaps it will remain more of an issue/quirk even after break in. Personally I am willing to find out because it does not bother me that much. YMMV

Here's a real bad video where you can hear the grind. Like I said graphite may help it but it is extremely irritating to me at least. And what's with the G10 backspacer?? Two posts would have looked soooo much better

Hi Bobnery,

Sorry for your disappointment.

You might send it back to us for a "look-see"?

I'm having problems with mine too. Seems as though the lockbar is not actually long enough to lock effectively. I have lateral wiggle and vertical. It is really starting to annoy me as no amount of pivot tightening or loosening will fix it. Its a nice knife, the lockup is just really annoying me and for a $200+ knife, It shouldn't be doing this.

Well, I doubt having a rant, a mini rant, a pants evacuation, a dummy spit in a post is going to help much.

Spyderco have an industry reknowned way of dealing with things, and as Sal has mentioned here in this thread, and in rare occaisions where other spouts of unhapiness are posted - send it in, they'll make it right.

Hey Sal it really just seems like part of the design, not a defect. Like I said it just may not be my flavor no biggie, I will return it to the dealer maybe after I sleep on it. Just thought others should know of my experience/opinion so they can take all available info and make their own decision. Hopefully too we won't have to wait too long on a another sprint run of CF Millies in 90 or 110

Is the stop pin eccentric? I had some of these issues with my SS Cricket, particularly the false lock-up, but they disappeared when I tweaked the stop pin a little. It's rock solid and silky smooth, now:thumbup:

Hi Bobnery,

This is a new model for us and if there is a problem, we'd like the opportunity to study and analyze.

S90V no doubt wil finds it's way into new sprints. S110V is not likely at this time.

Sounds to me like new CRK-itis. Needs a take down, cleaning, relube and a little break in.

I had mine 2 days and sold it for a loss, Very disappointed .....:thumbdn:

My Sage II is twice the knife the Millie Was.............

break it in and put some oil in it , mine works close to my Sebenza now.
good knife:thumbup:

That sounds like a QC/QA issue rather than a design flaw. My Orange G-10 Millie is smooth as silk when opening and closing. You should take Sal up on his offer to send it in for them to take a look at what's wrong.

I'm on the pre-order list for a Knifeworks Ti/G-10 Millie. Hope they work the bugs out before those are produced.

Sounds to me like new CRK-itis. Needs a take down, cleaning, re-lube and a little break in.

Doesn't the take down/disassembly void the warranty on most Spydercos?
