  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Tibetan Knife

Howard, I like that knife of yours. Did you guys notice the Tibetan Mastiffs on that website? The Mastiffs in Tibet scared Marco Polo $hitless when he was traveling through.

Yes, I tend to notice them now.

Marco Polo was a smart guy.

When I was a teenager, staying at a Tibetan Buddist monastery in Nepal, I encountered one tied up outside the library. As I went in I reached out to pet the nice doggy. He bit me twice in the hand really fast. It was all over by the time my reflexes engaged and my hand jerked back.

I wrapped my bloody hand and went on in the library to study. As I was immersed in a translation of a Tibetian text sometime later another bloody person came into the library, making a lot of noise about the dog outside.

I debated getting rabies shots but I was as afraid of the local health care as I was of rabies.

Another good reason to carry a khukuri in Nepal.
