In Nepali, it's surya, chandra, and tara.
(sun, moon, and stars)

Like Ghost's "tic-tac-toe" model ( no offense intended Ghost, just let me know it's name when you learn it ) This forward curving 18" khukuri has had it's decorations forged into it. It does not exactly make my 18th Century look like a villager, but you get the idea.

When I hold this it tells me that there could really have been ( and maybe is still ) a "for real" Excalibur.

Every time Bill has sent me a khuk it has been here the next morning.

Sun, moon, and stars waited two extra days to show up, and I suspect that was to inform me that I had been (only) provisionally deemed an acceptable holder or keeper for the time being, til someone truly worthy shows up.

Sun, moon, and stars should be in a museum. Or maybe out conquering the world.

It's more awesome than the (800 lb.) Salyan, which should also be in a museum. And the original for the 18th century IS in a museum. And the Hanuman/WWII and the 20" HI Chainpuri should be in the display case too. These are not knives but legends.

Shame on you Rusty; you keep tempting me and I have two on order now. We are going to overwork the kamis.

------------------

When I saw that khukuri I thought what a beautiful and unique khukuri. Then when I saw the name the kamis had given it I thought what a beautiful name for a beautiful khukuri -- sun, moon and stars. I'll bet Yvsa will like that name and I know he would love the knife -- but there was only one like that. We may see more that are similar but these are one of a kind -- others may be similar but will never be identical. Impossible to do by hand.

Although they are low caste and pounders of steel some of these kamis have a very poetic streak in their soul. They can be cantankerous at times but I still love them.

Uncle Bill

I heard all the lengendary stories of swords forged by the gods with magic in them. Excalibur, et.al.

I never expected to have one in my possession. ( Notice I did NOT say I own it! ) The kamis are very good indeed, but on this particular one ( and Ghost's and JayH's I am sure ) they had a bit of divine assistance.

This one gets mated with a buckler to get hung. There are none others that can be paired and crossed with this khukuri. Nor with Ghost's and Jay's. The three may be sisters, but they are each unique.

My guess is we now have 3 or 4 hundred years of experience in shop 2. We are simply seeing the results of this. We are getting there.

:
I can't imagine what these must be like.
I do love the name and I am sure I would love the knife.I believe it made it to where it belongs.
Mine hasn't arrived yet,but it will.
Perhaps when I get that particular one my craving for these pieces of art that speak to my inner being and my craving will be quenched?
Naaaw.
It is a funny thing.I have been drawn to sharp instruments all my life, but I have never been drawn to any like I have these.

I do not have an overly large collection or an especially nice one not counting the Kuhkuris.
Most all of my knives are users and the only one of the Kuhkuris I have I would even hesitate to use is the Hanuman Special and that just because
I mostly got it for an investment.?
I see in the threads where some are saying a knife is to pretty to use and I have trouble understanding that.I guess it would be its intended use.
I wouldn't hesitate to use Hanuman as a weapon.
There would probably be similar uses I wouldn't hesitate to use the Sun.Moon and Stars for either.
Does that make sense?

The civilized man sleeps behind locked doors in the city while the naked savage sleeps (with a knife) in a open hut in the jungle.

It does make sense, Yvsa, and I belive that Rusty will tell you that surya, chandra and tara is most useable -- as weapon or tool.

Uncle Bill

I'll let you know how it does just as soon as I need to slay dragons, quest for the holy grail, to rescue damsels in distress from castle keeps, to stand against the very gates of hell. Or maybe to reach the unreachable star. Other than that it's basically pretty useless, Uncle Bill.

I'm feeling a bit "thick" this morning. If Ghost is getting the "tic-tac-toe" forward curving khuk then which khuk are you referring to?
My morning coffee has failed to clear the "fog". Good thing I have today off!!

Mike

Mike, apparently the same guy made at least 3 khuks the same except for the forged in patterns. Ghost got one, shown in another thread and called "tic-tac-toe" by Yvsa. Jay H also got one in a different pattern. I got a third the same in dimensions to the others, but with a third completely different pattern of hot forged in designs. Mine depicted, and was called by those in the shop "Surya, Chandra, Tara" or "Sun, Moon, and Stars" in English. Ghost's one caused me to lust when I saw it. Jay's I've no idea what it's like. But when mine showed up...

There being one like mine, one like Jay's and one like Ghost's is like having a series of Holland and Holland 577 Nitro Doubles made, one depicting the Elephant, one depicting the Cape buffalo, and one depicting the Rhino. If one is later added depicting the Leopard, and another the Lion, that can still never take the slightest bit away from the the others.

I still have the feeling it should be hidden away only to be brought out only for a cusp worthy of it.

AAAHHHH!!!! Enlightenment!
The fog lifts. Rusty, Jay, Uncle Bill, PIX PLEASE!!!!!!!
Must sin of* n@w. K*yb^ard sh&rt$ing ou# with saliv!.

I don't mean to offend anyone but I think the khukuri Rusty got was my favorite of the lot. However, I doubt that Jay or Ghost would trade at this point in time.

This is one of the gret benefits of the "resident kami program," getting one of a kinders that will never be duplicated -- replicated maybe but never duplicated.
