Tiger Has Arrived

Absolutely amazing. I love how the blade edge is right by the finger choil. Great ergonomics and balance. Bravo Mr. Emerson, bravo.

Quick question about everyone's Tiger so far. So I finally broke it in and if I open the knife with the thumb stud, the lock goes over 3/4 of the way. When I wave it open, 1/2 to 3/4 each time. I haven't had the knife very long and it seems like each time the lock goes over further and I have the pivot screw tightened pretty generously. How have yours broken in?

I may have an issue with mine. Going to send it in. Going to miss her for a few weeks.

Out of the 2 that I have, they sit about the 50% mark. If I wave out of pocket really hard, they creep over to the 70% mark. Both had bad lock stick, one still does but that one hasn't been carried as much (not broken in).

Mine has developed small rust spots on the steel liner and rusted letters on blade. Haven't even cut anything with it yet. Sent it in today.

Understand that the presence of rust does not mean there is a flaw with the knife. All steel will rust eventually without proper maintenance. Also, later lockup is not a flaw either as long as the blade is secure. Does your knife have lock rock? If it doesn't then the knife is safe to use and the lock is secure. Late/early lockup is more hype than anything. My suggestion is to clean your knife and to use it as intended. If lock rock becomes an issue then send it in.

Of all the Emerson's I have, not one has any rust at all from anything I've cut. I have a 2010 mini commander that is also still flawless without the presence of rust. I have msny blsck bladevknives as well from other makers that have not had this issue. For a 268.00 knife it's not what I expect. I know it's a tool, but I didn't buy my most expensive rifle and have it rust 30 days later. I take exceptional care of all my cutlery. In regards to the lock, I had it screwed down to the point where I had to use 2 hands to open it and waving it in that condition it still went all the way over. I consider that an issue. I have 6 Emerson's and this is the only one like this.

I don't consider late lockup an issue either however if it is touching the other liner I would send it in. As for the rust I have had it happen only on one cheap knife years ago and promptly gave it away. I am not sure what I would do if one of my expensive knives developed rust spots. I sent my Super Commander in last week for warranty work and got it back today. The issues were fixed and turnaround was fast so you should have it back in no time.

Yes that's exactly how I feel. I'm a blue collar guy and the price I paid for the Tiger, I feel that it should have not developed rust spots this early in the game. It isn't stored in a humid location. I'm in Connecticut and it's barely 50 during the day. Late lockup on this one looks as if it's going to get way worse and I've barely used it.

FWIW, I'm a blue collar guy too. I have always worked physical jobs for not a lot of pay. All I'm saying is all steel will rust. Every time I go into a fire I have an Emerson in my pocket, and every time Im done and come back to the fire station, it has rust on it. And it's not just Emersons either. My Hinderers and Striders would do the same thing. It's not a flaw in the steel, it's my sweat that does it. Maybe I'm missing something, and it's your knife so you can ultimately do what you want with it. All I'm trying to say is rust does not equal flaw.

Good evening gentlemen!
I would love to buy the knife TIGER EMERSON, but unfortunately is not available on the site.
If anyone is interested in selling or buying can help where I can, I'll be very happy.

From the Emerson website:
Steel rusts. There is no such thing as stainless or rust proof steel. The steel that we use is 154cm and it is a high carbon tool steel. It’s formula just qualifies it as a stainless class steel. Our steel, 154cm, will rust given the right or should I say, wrong circumstances.

The stonewashed finished knives are raw steel with no coating. That means there is no protective barrier between the steel and the environment.

We do offer black coated blades.

Why do some of the stonewashed blades show surface rust? Because they have been exposed to an environment conducive to rust. It’s really that simple. We wipe all of our blades down with Sentry Tuf Cloth prior to assembly to give them that measure of protection. However, after exposure to certain environmental conditions or after someone has wiped or cleaned off the Tuf Cloth solution, the steel is then exposed.
