Tightening Up An Insingo After Breakdown

I have read that the way these are engineered you don't have to worry about over tightening or adjusting the pivot like you do on many liner locks. I don't find this to be the case and was hoping to get your opinions and info. I put it back together and found that the pivot and blade stop screws need to be pretty loose or the action is WAY too tight. This makes me uncomfortable so I ended up using loctite. Now, I don't mean the screws aren't screwed in, I just mean I had to stop screwing them the second they get tight. Normally I feel more secure about screws not loosening if I can really tighten them. Any words of wisdom? Anyone else find the action gets to tight if over tightened? Anyone use loctite?

I have to say after taking the lanyard out and putting it back together, the action doesn't feel quite as perfect as it did originally. All the bushings and washers and everything are in the right place but the detent feels a bit more tight.

Thanks

I'd suggest that something is not in it's proper location.

A Sebenza should not need thread lock compound, and they are designed to be tightened down firm (yes, you could conceivably over torque them, but it would not impact the blade swing (it would damage the screw).

The first time I didn't have things in the right place and I fixed it. Now everything is snug and the blade is center, but the action gets tighter when I tighten the pivot.

Did you make sure the washers went on the same way they came off? Blade side and Ti side, I've experienced that wear on the washers has to go back the same way. Don't forget, the bushing is just wide enough to accommodate the blade and the two washers. Too much grease will cause the washers to be out of place. The sandwich method of putting it back together is a sure way of getting everything back like it's supposed to be.

The washers may have changed sides. Infact, I was not sure which way they came from and switched them intentionally to try to get better results. I sandwiched the knife and press it, making sure all is in place right before screwing together. The action is decent but the pivot screw can't be in tight at all, so I may send it to them. I hope the turn around isn't bad.

Sounds like a pinched washer. Try disassembling a few more times, and assemble using the instructions on the top of this forum. Good luck.

At least one of mine is sensitive to how tight the pivot screw is. I snug the screw, but if I really tighten it the action is very stiff. And no, the washers are not pinched.

I've also had a couple like that, fiddle with it a bit and you can usually find the sweet spot- if not, send it in.
I've been lucky switching both the male and female sides of the stop pin with the pivot before and it fixed the problem- no idea why since it doesn't effect the bushing but give it a try, you might get lucky.

What is a pinched washer.. bent?

I was pretty careful with the washers but who knows.

Let me note the action is decent now but the pivot isn't in as deep as it can go. The sweet spot is just before its completely tightened. Thats why I am concerned and may send. And yes, Lumpy Grits- better before break down..

Oh no, I learned about that happening first hand when I first took it apart. Now I know about the clearance and fit. So thats not the problem. What I am thinking is I should just send it in. I just hate waiting.

Why send it in?
Take the blade out again and see if some crud got inside.
You have the small washer on the lock side, 'rite'??
FWIW: I haven't take'n mine apart in over 10 years.

I took it apart about 4 times and reassembled. The pivot screw just seems like it should be able to go in deeper with out tightening the blade so much.

Yes of course the small washer is in the right position. I'm no newbie to knives, just having a weird result with this one. I know how the knife looks when things are not in the correct place because I have experienced that before I did it correctly.. In my case everything is snug.

Its actually starting to feel a little better. I've been messing around alot.

I appreciate you guys taking the time to help.

I actually had the same problem with my Sm Insingo. When I tightened the pivot the action got reallllllly stiff. I was convinced either the pivot bushing was too small, the washers were oversized, or a washer was pinched. So I sent it to CRK and got it back yesterday.... On the invoice it said the body screws were stripped and the washers/bushing were fine. Needless to say it is good as new and I can crank the screw down as hard as I want.

How long was turn around time? Did you call, email or just send it with a note? How can I get this done the right way?

Just checking, but are you assembling the handles completely, then sliding the blade/bushing/washers into the front of the handles?

If you are putting it together like a sandwich, it is VERY easy to be slightly off.

No I lay it all out so its perfect before closing. I keep trying to tell you guys all the washers and bushings are in the right place but the pivot is strange
