I picked up this Tim Hancock knife a couple years ago, because though I'm basically self-taught, Tim is the closest thing I have had as a mentor in this business. As most people would admit, Tim is probably on more "Top five knifemakers in the world" lists than anyone else. I have enjoyed owning this knife since it has been the only one of Tim's knives I have had the opportunity to own, but as I am finishing up a new shop, I find myself reluctantly needing to sell it.
The knife was made in 1996 and is so marked on the reverse side of the ricasso along with "MS". The blade is a slightly upswept hunter style made from a low layer count random pattern damascus and polished. I spoke to Tim about the knife at Reno this last year, and he remembered that is was one of the knives he made during a time when he was looking for a damascus mix that was capable of higher performance than the steels he had been using. He believes that it is 52100 and L-6.
The guard and ferrule are mirror polished nickel silver with filework that is cleaner than most done today, and this knife is 11 years old! The handle is desert ironwood with a single pin. The sheath is also made by Tim which is leather with a nickel silver frog.
The blade on the hunter is 6" long with an overall length of 10-5/8". The knife is in 99% condition and the sheath is probably in 95% condition.
I am asking $1250 for this knife. If you are interrestd, please email me at burt@burtfoster.com.
