What is the average time does it take you to do a 350 to 400 count billet of ladder pattern?? This is with everything prepped, welded on a handle and starting with a 40-count stack. I am looking at 3.5 to 4 hours using a press.

I don't got no stinkin press. 5 lb hammer, a pack of Cherokee Cigarettes and a six pack!

IG...try it with a hammer.....builds character! Will also remind you of how bad a shape that arm is in...

HEHEHE!! I know how bad it is, that is why I built a press. :D Doc: What type of old bikes do you have and like?????

I would think 4 hours would be about right. My usual billet starts out at 17 layers and I triple on each fold. It usually takes me about 4 hours to get to 153 layers and forged down to 3/4 sqaure and ready for twisting.

That is using a 25# power hammer and not a press, but also leaving time for the billet to cool inbetween "folds" so I can cut and restack.

IG...I love my old stuff, but mosst of what I have is billet. I had my eye on a sweet looking old Indian, but some relish making guy named George got it before I did.....hahahahaha.

I love the looks of all of the old stuff, especially the Indians. Most of what I have now is a collection of pieces for 5 bikes that are all meant to be custom in some way when finished.

I am working on at the moment a 1966 Triumph Bonnie bobber, a triumph longbike, looking for a swingarm frame for triumph for another, a BSA cafe racer, and a BSA bobber.

Too many hobbies, and too little time to get anything right at the moment. I want to get the long bike up and going, but time just doesn't serve. I should have at least one done by spring. If I can get it reliabel you may see me on it at a show...

Working on 2 cable damascus knives now, a drop belly skinner and a daily carrier something along the lines of a drop point 4" blade... The arm will be getting a healthy work out when my refractory arrives! I got more stuff happening than I can shake a stick at...

Teh damned old brits are cantankerous beastly pains in the arse sometimes, but when they are right they are right. I love the torque, and sound.

I would still like to find an old Indian Commano, or Henderson 4, but until then I still have 5 to finish....

350 - 400 layers, well, that's a 45 minute ride to IG's, about 4 1/2Hours at the forge, a 12 pack of good beer (split it with IG of course) an hour of BS with whoever is around, after forging, and the 1 hour return trip, (the xtra 15 minutes is because of the brew).

All in all, it's a full day at NECKA HQ. :D
