I`ve been realizing something about myself. I have some very nice knives that I never use or carry. Nothing really expensive, just some custom Buck 110`s, an engraved Buck 112, some mint Case folders, and my JK Linerlock. I`ve decided that since I will soon be 61 years old, that these should start getting some use before I leave this world, so I plan on carrying them. Anybody else like this, or is it just me?

I keep thinking that I should just sell everything that has never been used.

I`ve thought of that too, but almost everything I have left has been a gift, either from Connie, the girls, or people here, so I will never sell them.

Been doing a little of this myself. I have so much money invested in so many knives that never see the light of day. Mainly because they are fixed blades and it's really more convenient to carry my folders....so I have been selling some fixed blades and replacing with folders I'll carry.

I need to put Trapline #1 into use. My pocketmuk is another that had lives in a padded case, still can't bring myself to use it as its way too pretty!

I've spent a lot of time (and money, unfortunately) gathering all the knives and stuff I have. I probably don't use 98% of the stuff I have, but I can't bring myself to get rid of any of it. I guess I am hoping that my son will have more of an interest in it. He will get it all anyway.

I never had a lot of stuff growing up. My parents never had money when we were little, and I was the youngest of four. We weren't poor, and we did have stuff, but just a lot less of it. I guess I just like to hold on to the things I have, even if I don't use them.

However, I have found that I am more generous than any other time in my life, and willing to give things away without any thought. I guess I am evolving...

I`m like you. Growing up I was the youngest of one brother and two cousins, so I got all the hand me downs. You sure are, I treasure my custom TL-29.

I purged a lot of my stuff like that lately (knives, guns, music equipment). I used to get really fixated on material things and their connection with the people I got them from. The stuff was getting too overwhelming though, and I realized the reason I wasn't using it wasn't because it was too nice to use, it was because it didn't fit my needs as well as some of my users. It wasn't easy to start getting rid of that stuff, but once I started it was like "what else do I have around here?" I understand your dilemma though John, I have some sentimental items I could never use, and never get rid of. I was probably no help at all hahaha!

I carry my stuff.

I keep a spreadsheet so Maggie and or my kids will know the approximate value of the knives I have in my collection.

I do have a few that I will not carry, like the mint Buck Ranger 112 Micarta that I have, but otherwise, they get carried and used.

For instance, I have a ZT0888MAX - the current hot ebay flipped folder, and I have been carrying it and using it.

Everyone should do what they like with their collections, I love knives because you can carry and use your pieces.

I will be paring down my collection - I will be selling some of the knives I don't carry or use, and focusing in on what makes me happy, in particular the ZT and Kershaw limited knives, and my JKs.

My most used knife is still my trusty Vic Waiter.

I've been trying to use my stuff too. I have plenty of knives that see zero daylight. Purging them is going to happen, with some probably to my sons as gifts, others cheaply sold.

I start to feel itchy about it if something sticks around too long, I pass it on somehow or sell it if I don't think I want to/will use it, always miss 'em though :)

I think you have to rethink your priorities and make the decision. Are you doing to shoot it? Can you display it to your satisfaction? Can you finally admit that whatever made you get it was just a "wild hair" rather than a deep abiding reason. I like the idea of using what you like or trying to pass it on to someone that might really enjoy it.

Seems like we are all pretty much in the same frame of mind. I'm doing a rotation these days with my pocket knives and so I don't really have an EDC anymore. Just an EDCMD (every day carry - most days). Still , even as I write, I am buying more knives and flashlights and tools all the while trying to sell stuff too. I've learned though that custom knives that I thought were pretty special don't really hold their value in the big world.

I too am keeping a data sheet of knives, tools and other collectibles/necessities. I hope they will find good homes when I'm gone.

So say we all!

Carrying this today, an Engraved Buck 112 I got from wolf-man 12 in the gift exchange.

I`m planning on posting a bunch of knives for sale tomorrow, ones with no sentimental value, that just don`t get used. They will be cheap, so watch for them!

Sad to say I won't be able to take advantage of it, I'll watch them go though :)

Nice Ranger there - I love those, but have not carried one for many years. They are just remnants of my past now, but I still love them.
