So just got this "Zombie killer" Bowie from John today. There are more pics in the Something Old Something New thread he started.

I asked him to put a pouch (2in x4in) on the front of the Bowie sheath to store some items.

Figured Id use this for an excuse to do a giveaway:)

Here's the deal: Help me fill it. Create a kit that would go in there. The space isn't big but if I decide to go with your idea you will win a

brand new folder!!!

Just added pic of give away brand new cold steel folder as well as a pic of Bowie next to a few other awesome JK Knives!!!

Thanks for playin!!

Danny

Whatever u would store in there. There is a fire steel attached.

I cant wait to c what people come up with either!!

Purell, cotton balls (clean hands AND fire starter). Mini bic lighter and some of those REI storm matches. Boom! Fire.

It's simple.. You've got firesteel for fire..if it fails, you need somthing else to heat you up ;) meet (mini edition)

This is a very cool idea. Ihe pretty much only seen these type of pouches used for whetstones, but I think a useful alternative would be a pair of rubber gloves, and string for field dressing and attatching the kill tag, and your hunting liscense.

And now seriously.. I don't think you need cottonballs or any kindling or survival kit - if you look around, think and improvise, you'll find it everywhere. I'd rather put in fallkniven dc4 sharpening (card-like) and medium multitool which will cover every rough task you can't use knife for (leatherman rebar) - e.g. eqipment repairs, awl, opening cans, wire cutting..you name it

I would go with cottonballs with vaseline in a small ziplock bag and or some other kindling, a small rolled up duct tape section, small signal mirror (from your lady's used compacts), travel tylenol pack, a small neodymium magnet with a couple sewing needles (to make a compass if needed and repair stuff) and a length of 30-80# braided fishing line, small magnifying glass, all in an altioid tin with a small section of bicycle tubing wrapped around it (another fire starting thing). Did I mention something like weatherproof matches to make fire?.... or what hnupek said

p-38 can opener
fire steel
small folding tool kit (kind of like a bicycle multi tool w/allen keys and screw drivers)
ear plugs
latex type glove (I mention "type" since latex allergies are a thing)
couple different sizes of band-aids
SAK classic
rubber bands/hair bands (lots of uses for these things)
That may exceed the space, but if so, not by much.

Not going to try and make the small pouch the ultimate survival kit, I'll assume you have that covered elsewhere. The majority of times grab a knife to go outside the one thing I always wish I didn't forget is mosquito repellent.

Stuff your tinder material of choice (I like alcohol impregnated cotton balls, dryer lint from COTTON loads, Wetfire tinder, and dry, shredded juniper bark) in an empty plastic TicTacs container, seal the container well with duck or electrical tape, wrap several yards of duck tape around the container. Add some paracord, maybe one of those slimline diamond sharpening rods or a microstrop, and a square of aluminum foil folded down to fit the remaining space in the pouch containing your fishing line and a bit of terminal tackle. That covers most of the basics:)

.plastic bag (small sandwich type)
.snare wire (light to medium gauge)
.paracord (aka 550 cord)
You don t need any fire stuff because you can find tinder and you have fire steel, you don't need a pocket sharpening stone because any porous rock can be used to "touch up" a blade. You need a plastic bag for a small water container, you need para cord for cordage and with five feet of 550 cord you really have 40 feet because all the inner strands, and snare wire isn't a must have but it's a great thing to have. Pretty much everything else you can make in the wilderness. -Calvin

i would put a leatherman wave in there....if it fits. that might get a bit heavy. but, i love having the wave with me in the woods. can't wait to see more pics of the knife.
